Like a 25% raise? What do you do? I plan on passing some certification exams soon and I can get offers elsewhere of 25% or more, so 25% isnt unreasonable. In a few months Ill have a heap of new responsibilities I didnt sign up for also from restructuring from a bit less clinical role to a bit more academic role.

Id rather not leave my workplace and dont want them to feel threatened or offended. I really like it here.

I want 25%, I feel like Ill be offered 7% if I dont say anything...which honestly is just the average annual increase each year for the field (average including position swapping).

Im paid on the higher end of the salary survey for my level of years experience but salary survey isnt reflective of what the actual salary situation is. Even without exams Ive been getting offered 20% more...but again I like where I am.

Start sending your boss emails about what certification youre receiving. Then compile the info you can find regarding what kind of compensation you would be offered elsewhere. Tell your boss that you appreciate working for the company and you would rather not leave, and ask them if there is anything that can be done.

If your certifications don't change how you're performing the role you're currently in, it shouldn't matter unless you have a competing offer of higher salary and your employer wants to keep you

It doesnt, but theres a pretty decent salary discrepancy between certified as non-certified people. It changes my going rate without changing the work I do and what Im able to do because theres a disconnection with reality.

Salary tends to be more based on signifiers of experience than actual ability to do work or be efficient, which would be near impossible to tell from an interview and possibly even working with someone.

You wait until you get the lower offer (if it's a scheduled raise) then bring up the value you bring the company and make your case. That or you skip to getting an offer from another company and bring it to your boss. Granted, just because you bring more value on paper won't always mean you can get the higher money at your current company. You might need to switch elsewhere. Honestly, considering that you're getting new duties you dislike, you might consider changing companies anyway.

Switching companies gives the biggest jumps. Why do you want to stay and why do you think you can't get that elsewhere?

Genuine questions, just to help assessment.

Yep, best way to get a big increase is to get offered a higher salary elsewhere. Then they either match (or must beat) to keep you. If they can't or won't, jump ship.

The best way is to find another job. Tell your current employer you are leaving because they pay more. Be prepared to actually leave if they don't give you the raise, though.

Edit: looks like I was beaten to the punch. Guess I will read the whole thread next time.
