When you buy food and other needed things to live, government wants a cut. They also tax the seller for making money but for some reason they have to tax you for buying at the same time.

In order to buy needed life goods, you need money. You get a job and make money, you get taxed for that.

Decide that you overbought some good? You already paid taxes when you earned money to buy it, you paid taxes again when you bought it...
NOT ENOUGH.
You have to pay taxes again for selling a thing you bought and paid taxes twice over on already.

But the government is broke! It is not enough!

Meanwhile rich people pay basically 0 tax. Sure, they pay a guy to figure out how to pay 0 tax, but compared to the tax they owe, paying that guy is nothing.

If a person has only $1000 and has to pay 20% in tax, won't they notice that loss way more than someone with $5000 that has to pay 20%?

Me math no good

Correct.

The more money you have, the less it matters when you need to pay for stuff.

This is why loans focus mainly on being predatory to the poor.
The rich can just pay them off when the want.
The poor have to take out more loans to pay the loans they already have.

Meanwhile the government smiles from tax.

just gave me a flashback to when I was like 19 and had $42 in my account

bought something for $43 and instead of declining it put me negative $1 then charged me a $30 overdraft fee so I was negative $31

oh then Netflix and like four other pending charges came in each being approved for some fucking reason and each accruing another $30 charge

it was my own mistake but holy fuck just decline it, dont fuck my finances over even further

Musk is living proof of just how complex high-level CEO compensation packagesand their tax implicationscan be. Musk received $2.3 billion in stock options from Tesla in 2018, but he actually earned $0 in total compensation. Thats because pay packages can be structured to satisfy SEC reporting requirements without considering the actual value of what an executive really receives. Had that money been taxed at a rate of 37% in the highest tax bracket like standard W2 salary, Musk would have paid about $851 million in taxes.

Yeah, I hated that kind of shit. You go to sleep thinking you have like $5 left and you wake up like $30 or more in the whole depending on how many automatic charges happen.

And the way it USED to work was that even on your pay days:
  • Current balance: $10
  • New direct deposit: $1000
  • Automatic charges: $15, $20, $12, $25

Banks USED to charge you for those automatic charges before they counted your paycheck. So you'd get 4 overdraft fees taken out and THEN your paycheck deposited. The Obama administration put in a law to stop that.

If they avoid income tax, then they aren't taxed 3 times.

I learned something more astonishing. The poor will donate a larger percentage of their wealth even though the wealthy have a larger margin of disposable income.

Wealth isn't exactly money. Rich folk have more value tied up in things. Itd be like donating equity in your house to the red cross

I agree on some of this stuff.
For example, if I buy a new car for lets say $20,000. I have to pay taxes on it, fine, done. Now, 5 years later if I sell this car the person who buys it next also has to pay taxes, well I already paid those taxes when I bought it but whatever I guess? Then that guy sells the car and repeat.
