I started a new run of Wind Waker HD, got to Forest Haven, then went to make dinner. When I went back to playing, I found that the Wii U's power saving mode had shut the console down.

So probably lost 4-6 hours

Complete live pokedex on Pokemon Y with a fully competitive team and perfect ditto for breeding (snagged one in a giveaway).

Lost it due to Nintendo support.... haven't bought a pokemon game since.

Over 99 hours on Mega Man Battle Network 2. I played so long the clock wouldn't go up anymore. Years later I find that my file had deleted itself somehow.

Probably 20+ hours in legend of dragoon. I just got to the 4th disk on my save file, and I went to the memory manager to clear up space to save another game and accidentally deleted my file

About 30 hours on Archam city. System turned off during an autosave and the file was wiped.

A nearly complete perfect dark save. I only needed one more star to unlock the war level and my cousin erased my data so they could start over. Pissed me off.

I was three dungeons into the dark world in lttp, accidentally loaded a save state that caused my only save to be right at the very start of the game. This was on the switch.

2 disks in FF9. My PS1 memory card had this issue where, if I saved in a different slot than my original save and then tried to save over my original save after loading the new save, my original save would get corrupted. New to disk-based video games-me had no idea what was happening and just kept moving down the line (I was rotating saves in case I later realized Id missed something important) until Id corrupted every one and had to delete them all and start over.

My GameCube memory card used to corrupt all the time so I've lost a bunch of progress on Sunshine, Wind Waker, Melee and TTYD. I remember Mother 1 crashed around the endgame and my last uncorrupted save was three hours back. Persona 3 in Tarturus for a non-crash related version

About 57 hours in Final Fantasy 6 Advance cause I wasnt paying attention and overwrote the save file with a new game.

Most is completely wasting a Salvaged Crate and getting scammed out a Schadenfraude Taunt on TF2. My inventory is gonna stay garbage.

Yeah I played that game a lot over a two or three year period before the Xbox broke. And it was like a double whammy as it didnt even occur to me that the save file was gone for good until the next day. Now if that had happened today it wouldnt even be an issue. #CloudsavesFTW.

Is the beginning of Twilight Princess really so much worse than the rest of the game? That was my first time playing a Zelda game and I lost interest in the beginning. I tried again with Breath of the Wild.

i dunno how many times i lost literally dozens of hours on morrowind creating a new character to try different stuff and then accidentally saving over my main save file. outside of that, one time my little brother saved over my FFIX file on the last disc of the game with one somewhere early on the second.

those two games made me habitually make multiple save files on everything i play where it is possible

Monster hunter iceborne, played it not longer after release got a bit into post game and dropped the game for over a year due to life. Came back but and my memory was deleted somehow that my family couldn't quite explain how....
And was only left with my post game data from when I needed to save scum for charms. Did not feel like doing that all again, nor the witchery dlc and that annoying ass monster.

had like 70% of everyone's sphere grids maxed out.

Had a game breaking glitch at the end of Arkham City where I couldnt progress further in the story. Til this day I have yet to ever go back and play the game despite enjoying it tons.

This happened to me with Arkham Asylum! I never went back to it either. Wasn't gonna do all those damn riddles again.
