It doesn't seem interested in the chickens but it still makes me a hair worried having such a large raptor near them. It's likely hunting the many mice and rats that are attracted to the chicken area. It's a very beautiful bird though, and it lives in my barn.

The owl is definitely sus. He's marinading your chickens.

Same way coyotes do it to dogs and other pets.

I saw a giant owl irl once. People don't think of owls in tropical areas but a lot of random exotic birds either pass through these islands on migration route or settle to roost. So one time I got up and saw an owl perched high up on a telephone pole outside my house. He stayed around for a week or so up in the coconut trees. We have hawks and stuff coming through too.

Owls will generally ignore domestic chickens and prefer wild prey, but there are exceptions. I'd be more worried if you had chicks, or as owls call them, nuggets.

Hmm, if your worried about your chickens, perhaps there is someone you can call to catch and relocate it to another area. Do you think you can take a picture for us? I'd love to see it.

There's a chance the owl is staking the area for ferrets, stoats, foxes and other egg thieves.

But ya

Careful, this is CarefreeDude here. He may interpret this as asking for a pic of his wife's boobs or something, and we wouldn't want that now, would we?

The real question is, does your son constantly have tootsie pops all of the sudden?

Or just leave travel brochures where the owl can find them.

Yeah, owls are pretty dumb. They spend their whole existence hunting crap at night including sleeping birds, but they got loads of defenseless chickens for the slaughter and they somehow don't associate them with food. Wierd.

Why is it that it seems like chickens would be good house pets?

Like, can you imagine having a little chickie that just walks around your aparment (pooping everywhere, but that's besides the point) and you cuddle up watching tv and then they go back to their nest to poop out tomorrows breakfast?
