The vast majority of Smash online matches I played on the 3DS were while dropping the kids off at the pool.

@hockey7318 If you're willing to do 10-20 minutes of work (and void your warranty) you should try fixing it yourself! I got this super cheap kit on Amazon, and found a quick YouTube video on how to replace the joystick, and it fixed the drift and I've had no issues since. It's been about a year now.

I will say I did the same joystick repair for my joycons two years ago and it may have been because I also took the time to replace the joycon shells as long as I was doing it, but the project took me a couple hours.

I imagine just replacing a single joystick is easier though.

Doesn't Nintendo fix them for free? I seem to remember that being a thing, though obviously you'll have to wait a bit for it.

They do, but there's the wait + in my experience they start drifting again soon after

so its just been accepted nintendo will take zero responsibility for the drift issues?

Nah, you can send it in and have Nintendo fix it for free. According to TC, though, that fix doesn't necessarily last, so that's an option for people that want a bit more control over it and to skip waiting for shipping.

hmm, im curious if they changed manufacturing over the years to avoid having joycons being sent in. but i suppose free isnt terrible...

My understanding is that the lower manufacturing standards are a simple consequence of Foxcon being pretty bad, but there being pretty much no domestic electronics manufacturing left in Japan to rely on instead. They may simply not have the option of switching to better manufacturers, to say nothing of the fairly high probability that they're locked into a contract for the current arrangement (particularly if the manufacturer eats the cost of these free repairs and that's less of a loss than it'd be to step up their game).

what a sad thing to hear, but i suppose its inevitably by todays standards. ill miss the older systems, when worry over reliable part manufacturers werent on everyones mind.

truthfully, i was hoping to hear you say theyve fixed the issue in more recent systems, ok? any data on the figures regarding the joycons seeing the issue, i venture not every unit is affected.
