I was pretty ecstatic about Marvel's Spider-man when they introduced the Sinister Six. That how games should be.

It's less about the written story and more about the way the story is told and how individual narratives emerge from the game design. This is "video game" as a medium at its absolute best.

How much like Myst is Outer Wilds? I absolutely hated Myst when I was a 13-year-old trying to figure it out.

Depending on how generous we're being, from most recent to most impactful, my answer would be ME: Andromeda, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Genshin Impact, Hollow Knight, or Lenna's Inception.

The incredible soundtrack, solid battle system, really well-written story and dialogue, wonderful character interactions, and just the overall mood and monster design of the game. One of the greatest JRPGs in existence.

I was never able to get into Myst. If I had to draw a comparison, Outer Wilds is more like Return of the Obra Dinn + The Witness. You're uncovering things by exploring and reading and gaining knowledge about how things work/learning about the past.

Ending is pretty wild.

It's so funny since it's the cherry on top. Coming from Persona 5 and dozens of other RPGs and fantastic games alike, Persona 3 FES managed to impress me the first time I played it in 2019. Just something about the whole style, aesthetic, and overall gameplay that just suits me perfectly.

Even if I admit it's flawed, some of its worst issues come from the time of its era (no save points in the Arcana dungeons) which themselves are curbed by relatively easy boss fights. Yet in owning a PS2 since 2004, this managed to be my favorite game on the system.

By "ending" I'm assuming people mean the entire month of January in Persona 3 and yeah. It's top notch. Persona 3's biggest flaw is that there's no "definitive" version. P3P makes so many improvements with the gameplay and writing but absolutely dumpsters the atmosphere of the PS2 version.

My Remastered playthrough was pretty much almost a blind playthrough, which is part of the reason that particular cutscene shocked me.

When I say almost blind, I knew going in, probably from discussions of this game on Board 8, that Fiora was a pretty key character in the game, but I didn't know much beyond that. So it blew my mind that Fiora gets shredded by Metal Face in that first notable cutscene. I correctly guessed that we would be pulling her from the brink of death later on, partially due to that meta-knowledge and the fact that she was the only failure of Shulk's visions for a long time, which made her a suspicious outlier. But when the cutscene delivers that fucking hard, particularly the one-two punch of Engage the Enemy and Shulk's excellently voice acted "I'LL KILL YOU" line, I was surprised that this wasn't as iconic of a moment as FF7's End of Disc One regardless of Fiora's final fate.

Gnosia. Kind of strange that they not only made single player Among Us work but make capivating characters and story along with a great soundtrack. I saw its price point and thought it was another of those Switch japanese shovelware games like everything from Kemco.

Outer Wilds

The two other outstanding games I've played over the last couple years - RE2Make and FFVII - are also worthy answers, but those are both mega-budget games with acclaimed source material. Outer Wilds was such an incredible surprise.
