I don't care about the MPD policies and procedures book. If my job had a policy that said every time I finish a project, that I take my gun and shoot my neighbor in the head... If I followed that policy then I'm still guilty of murder for shooting my neighbor. I feel like the policy part is relevant more to the family suing the city of Minneapolis.

Likewise I don't really care much about training. I can be trained how to kill people, but if I kill somebody I'm still guilty of murder.

For me, especially this specific case where it's just Chauvin... It's a very simple thing. They restrained somebody prone who was having obvious signs of some kind of mental break.

First

Trying to put him in the car and him telling you he's terrified and claustrophobic.

Fine, you're clearly suffering some kind of panic situation. We'll call an ambulance and you can sit on the wall outside the car for a while. Talk to him like a human being, empathize with him, de-escalate and calm the situation. If you calm down enough to get in the car, then fine, if not then we'll have the EMT's look you over. We can deal with the arrest part after your mental state is clearer.

Second

Fine, instead of treating him like a human being with feelings, you try to FORCE him in the car. He freaks out and you take him to the ground.

Again, getting him up, and walking him over to sit up against the wall... it's right there and a perfectly good option. Good to go. Known good. Talk to him like a human being in a bad situation. Try to calm him down.

a lot of police seem to have a huge issue with de-escalation

I think the focus of the MPD policies and procedures is to drive home the fact that what Chauvin did was not an approved tactic for use of force.

This really sucks. If chauvin gets acquitted of all charges due to drugs being involved it will be terrible. I wish there was nothing about drugs at all, then the defense would have nothing at all to stand on. I still dont think floyd died of a drug overdose though. Therr is so much talk about the position he was kept in being a bad position which could cause asphyxia. Plus having chauvin on his neck for 9 minutes and the other 2 officers pushing down their weight on him would make anyone not able to breathe

I think you're massively underestimating the stupidity and cop chugging bias of your average American juror.

He's going to walk, MN does not convict white cops.

He'll walk.

The piece of shit that shot Philando Castille 9 times in front of his family for absolutely no reason in MN walked simply because Philando had marijuana in his system.

They are saying in the video says " i ate too many drugs" but its not 100% clear, it could have also been "i ain't on any drugs". I can't believe the jury could fall for such a thing :( chauvin can't be acquitted of all charges. The entire city will burn down, chauvin will probably be killed. And even some jurors could be killed once their identities are revealed. There is just so many angry people out there, some who don't care about their lives anymore and would attempt such acts

It's a common trick to influence people with audio clips like that. You can tell people it is saying a certain thing and people will start to hear that thing

Floyd admitted to having Covid from the full police footage. And he came up as positive on the police report's autopsy report (I don't believe the autopsy report was discussed in court yet).

I'm inclined to believe Floyd was being truthful in that audio there.

This pulmonology expert is pretty sure that George Floyd died as a result of a low level of oxygen as a result of his positioning on the ground, handcuffs, and the officers' positioning on his body.

Got worried when the defense pulled that leading the witness bullshit yesterday but now I see that as more of an act of desperation because they think their case is totally fucked.

i dont know shit, but don't they have to prove the cop knew he was in pain, not just that he was in pain?

yeah i know "should be obvious", but things like flippant remarks or "i hear you but i dont care" would help more to convict him imo

From what I've heard about Minnesota law, they have to prove that Chauvin's actions were a substantial contributor to his death in that incident.

yeah, so that should count. floyd being in pain isnt as important to prove as chauvin continuing his actions while knowing he was in pain as that would suggest a high contributor to (at least) further pain and that includes death

Cant watch at the moment. Summary?
He explained in GREAT detail how being in the prone position reduced oxygen reserves and lung volume and how the knee made it even worse. Also how there were signs where George was trying to breathe through his fingers and shoulders due to exhausting his oxygen reserves. IE lifting his right shoulder up. His left lung was basically as good as not there at all due to the position he was in and all of the weight on his body. There were moments where Chauvin's foot was off the ground implying full force on George's neck. Which is half Chauvin's body weight plus all of his gear. Also, whether his knee was on George's neck versus his back didn't matter much at all. The effects are the same.
