... you would have to work 365 days a year for 8 hours a day... for over eight million years.

And this is before taxes. So really it's more like over ten million years.

Capitalism IS working as intended. The way it's intended to work just happens to suck for the overwhelming majority of people at this stage.

You ever play Monopoly? It's a game that was initially designed to teach people about the near-crippling effects of income disparity*. The game is actually always decided fairly early on - but the games can take hours despite the victor being clear after the first half-hour or so. The rest of the time the other players are just desperately struggling to survive as the dominant player sweeps up everything on the board and crushes everyone as slowly and painfully as possible with no chance of them making a recovery.

America right now is the equivalent of the third hour of Monopoly.

This is really not true through a lot of the US, not sure where you're at but yeah. Maybe cities, still hit or miss there. A lot of places including retail chains and fast food places do still start around 7.50-8 dollars. Large cities like LA, Chicago, I assume to be higher. But mid tier cities through most of the south and midwest are definitely low minimum wage. Even in the city I live in, every place I've looked at and know people at starts at 8. I learned this as the pandemic forced me to take other jobs after my field got completely fucked.

The difference is, in Monopoly all the players start equally. If it was a real representation of Capitalism, one player should start with double money, and a get out of jail free card. The other players only get 50 bucks for passing go.

Since people are bringing up that nobody pays minimum wage anymore... I bumped it up to $50 an hour. That's decent money, right?

At $50 an hour, you would still have to work 8 hours a day, 365 days a year for over one million years.
And again... that's before taxes.

If you are making $50 an hour and not investing and saving so you can eventually start a company, youre doing it wrong.

Everyone here by now knows my views like down with the false god and fuck em, tax em and fund UBI now but these arguments I see are still a set of stupid arguments to make.

No one gets that rich except by owning shares in a company that grows in value. So save up, educate yourselves in areas that are in demand, and start earning more than minimum wage if youre still there. Buy stock, plan to start a company or to join one that includes stock in compensation. Etc.

As of last August he had 54.5 million AMZN shares which are now worth $166.3 billion.

That is literally why he is rich. Given Amazon's history it's fair to say that a large % of that was obtained immorally, but when you act like Bezos has amount that in liquid cash you are lying.

it is still the case that he should be capped at $1 billion and those extra shares should go to the employees, starting with the warehouse employees who are peeing and shitting in bottles/bags because they have no choice

20% wealth tax would have been appropriate a long time ago. Whats that Bezos? Too high??? Make it 30%.

Absolutely nothing wrong with people being rich. Only thing that's wrong is that they're allowed to use that wealth to sway political systems in their favor to basically become their own class of people. If the government actually gave a fuck about corruption and closed whatever shitty loopholes they utilize, then everything could at least be a bit more even-keeled.

Actually I'm serious. Like I just don't get why people are bothered by it

1. Obscene amounts of wealth like what we see from Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk has to come from somewhere. The billions of dollars they have is billions of dollars in value extracted from the working class. Capitalism is a zero-sum game, after all.

2. Wealth leads to socioeconomic power when there isn't a strong enough government to counterbalance it. Billionaires like Jeff Bezos have an obscene amount of power when it comes to shaping the global landscape and as Kanye West said, no one man should have all that power.
