Those few faithless electors gave us Bush and Trump.
Uh... No.

As a result of the seven successfully cast faithless votes, the Democratic Party nominee, Hillary Clinton, lost five of her pledged electors while the Republican Party nominee and then president-elect, Donald Trump, lost two.

Trump won 306-232. Those five that swapped from Hillary didn't gift us Trump. It wouldn't have even made a dent

Also 306-232 is the result after the faithless electors were overruled. The faithless result is actually 304-227-7 (Trump still wins)

Because voter fraud is a non issue and voter Id laws have no impact on reducing fraud but do have an impact on reducing poor and elderly voters.

DMVs in my state have purposely been closed in heavily democrat areas.

They're also only open 8-4 Monday through Friday. If I need to go to the DMV I have to use PTO. Not everyone has this luxury.

This isn't goal posts or other DDIQ MAGA nonsense you're spouting, this is reality.

Make DMVs plentiful, open 7 am - 10 pm 7 days a week (excluding holidays), and make the voter ID free, then I'm on board with it being a requirement.

Age is a set standard and most people have no issue with it. I could see arguing for it to be lowered to 16. However if you lowered or removed it you'd literally have people popping kids out just to increase their vote share.

In prison felons shouldn't be able to vote. Those who committed violent crimes probably should be limited or not able to vote. I do think non-violent felons should be regifted their right to vote. The reason for violent felons not voting would be that they've clearly expressed hostility towards or a dangerous disinterest in the good of the society.

ID shouldn't be a requirement. And if it is a requirement then all efforts should be made by the State government to provide every single citizen with a proper ID. Failure to do so by the State officials should result in life prison sentences for willful unreasonable restriction to the right to vote of the legal citizenm

Are any Dems against free voter ID that is provided by mail?

All arguments I've seen are based on availability or charging for said ID

If you can show an instance of a Republican offering a system where everyone automatically gets sent an ID fairly, then you have made a good point. Else, you're not really presenting your argument accurately

Dems seem to remain opposed to voter ID even when proposals would make the ID available completely free of charge.

It's a bullshit, as lawsuit after lawsuit will tell you.

If MAGAs want voter ID to be mandatory, support a NATIONAL campaign that guarantees every american a photo ID.

Short of a massive campaign to achieve that goal, all voter ID does is disenfranchise legal voters who dont have the paperwork to get an ID, or the ability to travel to a place that can give them one. There is no study that shows voter fraud to be a substantial issue. It's a poll tax.

CE has fallen a long way when this isn't universally condemned. The usual suspects are outright defending it. You wonder why you get called fascist, racist, or anti-democratic all the time? It's because you defend the practices from the Jim Crow chapter of your middle school text book and say things like "we all know who the illiterates will vote for"

That could be a quote from Strom Thurmond himself and no one would bat an eye.

All sound, well thought out, and understandable reasoning but why are other forms of voter limitation such as intelligence not given as much consideration?

Even if a good argument can be made. Especially when many people have done nothing the past 4 years but complain about how stupid these voters, anti vaxxers, and anti maskers are when a simple barrier of entry like this would shut most of them down completely.

I'd imagine itd be a basic, multiple choice online test with simple questions like 'what is a Democrat or Republican', 'who is running for presidency' 'what are their polices' 'what are taxs or interest' , 'the differance between federal, state, or local government' and so on.

Also It's free, you only need to pass it once in your life, and you're given infinite tries to pass.

And that's a problem.

Having a society-spanning belief that "everyone should be literate" is one thing.

Pointing towards those who are in fact illiterate as "the problem" and punishing them, rather than the system that led to them remaining illiterate is quite another.

Like do you think those people chose to remain illiterate from a young age?
