As long as its privately funded and not tax payer money, I really dont have an issue with it. In principle I agree its silly to not give it to all people below a certain income level but again...its privately funded. People can do what they want with their money.

As for it being unconstitutional, it probably depends how much the city is involved. It is a private fund, but what exactly is the city's role in it beyond the Mayor announcing it?

Also how do they determine who is white and who isn't? If someone who is obviously white self identifies as non-white, are they eligible? Under most legal law in the US, race is determined by what a person self indififies as (i.e. people can put whatever race they want on the Census and job applications and as long as they identify as that, that is legally their race)

Using shaming language does not change what it is.

It is a helpful program that deserves credit. It is also racist, or at least racially discriminatory, and it is not inaccurate to point it out. This is not an either or. It is both.

The "Oakland Resilient Families" program has so far raised $6.75 million from private donors including Blue Meridian Partners, a national philanthropy group. To be eligible, individuals must have at least one child under the age 18 and an income that is at or below 50% of the area median income about $59,000 per year for a family of three.
