A Gyarados can just sit in a lake and shoot hyper beams at the lions and then take a nap. Rinse and repeat.

Lions literally can't do shit to stop the legendary trio, or hell, any flying type period, from hovering around, slowly picking them off thousands at a time with ranged AOE attacks. It would take a long while because 1 billion is a ridiculously huge number, but there's no actual threat.

I don't know about the abilities of the lions and the Pokmon, but if each lion takes up two square meters, then a billion of them fill out a circle that has a radius of 15.7 miles. So if the lions spread out and then surround the Pokmon any attack of a Pokmon will need to have a range of 16 miles to hit all the lions in that direction.

Even in generation I, some Pokmon had near-godlike powers. The lions wouldn't stand a chance.

Okay so let's just do some basic math. 151 pokemon with 4 moves. Let's say each move has 40 pp and each attack they have can take out 1,000 lions.

151x4x40x1000=24,160,000

And that's supposing the lions don't put up any sort of fight at all, meaning none of the Pokemon get attacked at all until then.

Mewtwo's plan in the first movie was to create a global storm to wipe out all life on earth, except for those it invited to the island and the clones it made.

Hardly any Gen 1 Pokemon can go toe to toe with a lion.

Stage 3 evolution starters might take out a couple, but sheer numbers would easily overwhelm. Big birds like Pidgeot and Fearow might try divebombing as a tactic, but they're getting swatted eventually and they're done. Same with the three legendary birds.

Mewtwo wouldn't be powerful enough to fend off such a horde of lions for very long. One direct attack and he's dead.

Onix would put up a good fight maybe, but they would still have weaknesses like their eyes. Enough power from enough lions could also damage rock.

Gyarados or Dragonite can easily be torn to shreds by sheer numbers. Or they might just run away.

Rhyhorn and Rhydon might be hard to damage but they could just be smothered.

There's just no conceivable way that 151 creatures (drastically reduced to the ones that can even remotely stand against a lion) could hope to win against a billion of one of nature's strongest, most ferocious hunters.

I don't see how lions get past pokemon like Golem, Onyx, or Rhydon. They're like literal stone and Lions have trouble taking down elephants. 1 billion is a lot though...

The 151 Pokemon can't fight forever and would tire out eventually. They'd tire out long before they could down 1 billion Lions. Once enough of the Lion corpses pile up, everything dies of disease.

Its a Draw

So one earthquake
How does the Earthquake move in Pokmon work? If the battle isn't taking place near the fault line between two tectonic plates, then the earthquake in theory would cause the ground to shake a bit, but it wouldn't hurt a single lion. If it does take place near a fault line, does the Pokmon that performs the move know exactly where the ground will break apart? Would other non-flying Pokmon potentially be just as doomed as some of the lions?

Depends if we are doing the anime vision of Pokemon (tough call), manga vision (Pokemon) or video game logic (most likely the Pokemon PP out and struggle to death)

If we're going by the anime, then the Pokemon would win easily. Going by the game mechanics though, puts things heavily in favor of the lions. Only because Pokemon abilities are severely limited for the sake of game balance. In the anime, Pokemon aren't limited to just 4 moves, nor do they have PP.

In the anime Pokemon aren't anywhere near as powerful as their Pokedex entries suggest.

Maybe not, but the biggest limiter for the Pokemon in a battle like this is "they would run out of pp". Without that, it's a different story. Yes, a good chunk of the Pokemon would still be killed by lions, but Pokemon that can learn teleport, fly, dig, or surf would be able to escape and rest before returning for more.

Lions no contest. There's a fucking billion of them, going with the most simple of logic the heavy hitting Pokemon will tire themselves out and let their guard down. Only takes one Lion to disarm one and get the surrounding hundred to take them on.

Like it's absurd, you can't even say it's 650k lions/Poke since they'll instantly kill like half the Pokemon first round.

Ditto might be able to survive simply by blending in but who knows if they can live with the guilt.

Pokedex entries are often very questionable or outright impossible, so I wouldn't base things off of them unless it sounds reasonable. Like Exploud being heard from 6 miles away is probably true, while Magcargo is certainly not actually anywhere near as hot as the pokedex says.

If it was every pokemon, I'd say the Pokemon would win just because later gens actually have pokemon do some crazy stuff

the Pokdex is inconvenient so it doesnt count

Yeah this whole topic kind of failed because TC gave no real rules. Supposedly its only gen 1 Pokmon but gen 8 rules apply, and were not allowed to use Pokdex entries or logic from the anime.

Basically this topic was made just so the TC can argue with people about his goofy hypothetical.
