Like, I got out of school, felt like I was doing good at my job, in life etc. 6 years in and I just feel like I haven't really grown much in the past 1-2 years. And I don't know what to do.

*Sigh*

Do you have cash to feel safe about employment if you were to take a break? Do you read non-fiction?

I agree. Sometimes life feels a lot like being adrift in the ocean. Long periods of boring lulls followed by short periods of dramatic shifting and seemingly near death experiences. I feel like I know where I'm going some days, and others, well...it's more like I'm sun baked, dehydrated and just along for the ride.

I feel like my life has been stagnant for the past year and half. The pandemic didn't help but there were a lot of other things going on that caused it to be like this.

I've felt it for the past year I guess.

Ya, I could take a break, but I don't feel comfortable doing so for another few months if I ultimately decide to do that. Part of me wants to take like 6 months off work and just fuck around. I'm scared I'm romanticizing the idea of doing that though. And worst case, I do think I have 2 jobs I could go to if I had to go back to work quickly

I read quite a bit, but not non-fiction. Not in a while at least.

Ya I get that, but I've had inklings of this before that stuff started happening to be honest.

it is 100% the pandemic. all you can do is focus on your job and maintaining your relationships. at least you're married already so you dont have to worry about dating (which i havent done this whole last year)

I've had this feeling for a little while yeah, picked up chess lately so I can feel like I'm trying to get better at something because chasing wealth doesn't feel very fulfilling anymore, maybe I should partner up with some friends and start a business

If you have the chance to financially do it. Man, I would. Best I could is use my 3 months vacation ive saved up in one swoop. But I got a brand new house and stuff to take care of

I wish I had decided to do that before starting this job that I've only been at for 3 months

Financial moves I made in my early to late 20s have set me up for a pretty easy life. I haven't been "hungry" since I realized I don't have to really try anymore to have a comfortable life.

I'd been making the "safe" and steady decisions to set myself up well for the future, in a better situation than the average person by far, but I've made some pretty risky decisions recently in an effort to try and speed up the financial stuff, and also to do something "adventurous". Well, risky compared to what I usually do.

But I'm realizing maybe I should just be content with what I have so far and stop being hungry. That whole "hustle" culture shit in social media has had a bad impact on me for some things...

that's a huge pet peeve of mine. don't get me started on "if you don't own your own business, you're just making money for someone else" or "if you're working and not making your dreams come true, you're making someone else's dreams come true"

it's all bullshit

life isn't about making money, it's about enjoying life; money is just a means for that. do what makes you happy that allows you to live the life you want.

personally, as someone that works for the government, i don't understand that culture at all...if people like me didn't do the stuff i do, the world would cease to function, and that's not even an exaggeration

It really might be COVID. Apparently the various stressors related to COVID have been messing with people's health in weird and unexpected ways. I've been to the doctor recently for completely unrelated health matters, and they always ask if the symptoms were there pre-COVID or if they were better.

If you make really good money being an employee, that's different than making shit money as an employee. Additionally, I'd rather make 100k working for someone than 50k working for myself.

But ya, I don't think it's a horrible thing to work for people like some make it sound. Like, even if you work for yourself, you're accountable to your clients.

It'd feel nice to have fuck you money while young though...
