For what it's worth, the original Reddit user that posted all of this stuff to begin with has admitted to another user that the birthday message was not actually from Dan to the individual, and that they were just using that screenshot to establish her age for the sake of the story. So, thus far, the only contact they had before she was 18 was a very generic fan message and him basically just generically responding about tour plans.

Lmao, so pathetic.

Take anything posted on rant grumps with a grain of salt, they are a very weird bunch and have been trying to push this narrative with little to no evidence for literal years now.

The post claims they have evidence but the "evidence" shows nothing beyond the fact that Dan maybe had sex with a 22 year old back in 2017? Like the comments are acting as if this is some kind of smoking gun but they didn't prove anything.

It's weird how four years later I still see people talking about how JonTron "apologized" yet they can never produce any evidence or concrete recollection of it happening. Seems like something that people trying to excuse his behavior made up. I think some of the people who now repeat it are well-meaning, but it's kinda alarming how much an easily-debunked lie can spread years later.

Every time I look up some of the quotes he said it's always way worse than I remember it too, hate people saying to just "get over it" as if 2017 was some vastly different era.

He made a response video that he later made private once everything blew over. Basically saying he was an idiot who just blurted out stats he found online, and that he was unprepared for his debate with Destiny. It was definitely a half assed apology, but he did take back his original comments.

It's very clear from a lot of the stuff he was saying and involved with at the time that he was well entrenched in that kind of gross rhetoric

Sometimes, you hear the words coming out of someone's mouth, and it's such an unpleasant surprise that it sours you on them. Even if they go back on it later, it can be hard to trust someone after that trust has initially been broken.

It's pretty repugnant that Jon would push this racist narrative of the white man being bred out of America by immigrants - it's bad enough that he's the child of immigrants pushing this stuff, but the basis of that viewpoint was initially made by the guy who first raised the idea of eugenics. It plays on painfully outdated "barbarians at the gates" rhetoric, and insists that the proliferation of "inferior" genes is a wide enough threat to civilisation that removing another people's right to breed is a net positive for humanity. And it starts with that "replacement" bullshit, with the implication always strongly suggested to be non-whites replacing white people and subsequently being stopped from breeding to "maintain civilisation".

Whether he realised what he was saying or not - and I do think that Jon was cognizant of what he was saying and the aims of that rhetoric - to face such blunt, racist rhetoric from someone you took as a good-natured comedian is a serious shock, and whether he later recanted or not, the damage has still been done.

It's like, you're talking with a cool guy at a party. You have a similarly edgy sense of humour, you get on like a house on fire - and then you learn he buys into that sovereign citizenship stuff and thinks Obama was a reptilian jew overlord. Everything he said before was tinged in an appealing sense of irony, but this stuff comes out of left field and stands on its own as a statement as opposed to being a punchline to anything. The trust has been lost.

I've never understood it. I can entirely disagree with these people's actions and viewpoints while still enjoying the stuff they say and content they produce. But maybe I'm just cynical in that it doesn't affect me, so I don't care.

I don't really feel like "art from the artist" applies to most internet personalities. There's a lot of different roles that go into a movie but a show like JonTron is basically about him. In Dans case, the art and the artist is someone who enjoys casual sex, before he settled down with his girlfriend anyway.

No, it's not like how kids used to watch R rated violent movies. That is a poor comparison. Arin knows who the primary viewership of his channel is. He makes content daily and knows how to present himself to make himself most appealing to that audience.

Kids who watch GameGrumps do so for the mature adult and gross content they produce that they dont get from shows actually aimed towards them.

Id hardly call the GameGrumps going full on racist / misogynistic / pro drug use / paedophilic / sexual during some of their episodes as a show intended for kids. But yes, Arin does know kids watch it too but doesnt tone the content down. Nudity in games is censored but thats a given.

That's why I approached my post in the way that I did. The facts of the matter were:

• Rant Grumps have been trying to make this happen for a while. They have grievances ranging from a silly misdirection being emotionally manipulative to Dan being a sex offender - they're committed to showing the Game Grumps in the worst possible light.
• Dan has a history of like groupie shit, but the allegation basically boiled down to "I met Dan at a Grump event when I was 17, I then met him at a show when I was 22 and that's when we talked and had sex". No proof that he was grooming her for any of that time, or at all.

I stand by my statements about fame and implicit power, and I do think that Dan needs to - for lack of a better term - be careful with who he hooks up with. As a public figure, whether he intends to or not, he can cause harm to a lot of people. He should be mindful of that.

But this is why I took that specific angle with my post. Because he wasn't behaving like Quinton Flynn, lying to his fans and actively manipulating them for sex and putting down other women in his life to emphasise the connection he has with them. He wasn't texting underage fans and trying to smash like Ryan Haywood. While not exactly appropriate for a 40 year old man, he was playing the field as a part of his dumb rockstar fantasy. Sources of information, and the intent of their information, is important to note.

I think we were right to take this seriously, but with the internet being the internet, we were quick to condemn and take all the information at face value - even from an unquestionably biased source. Next time, let's discuss the issue at hand and how it relates to the allegations, and wait to see if the allegations hold water.

As a footnote to this, the comments on recent videos are just full of people making up stuff Dan/Arin did as a joke. Like, "I can't believe nobody's talking about the time Arin and Dan went to Walmart and shit in a bag of Doritos."
