This game is pretty good overall and I think I like every new monster I've encountered (which is most of them) to at least some extent, with Magnamalo in particular being one of my favourites ever, but man the Rampage mode sucks.

What's the deal with rampage mode?

It's a tower defense minigame where everything is always attacking from off camera or outright spawning off camera, they give you a minimap but it sucks because it doesn't show where you have things set up, MH combat is very much not designed for fighting a bunch of big monsters at once in a small area, and ultimately it's all pretty trivial because the final gate has ludicrous amounts of health so you have a ton of leeway to play like shit and still win. So it's easy (at least it has been so far, maybe the highest level ones will be tough) but it feels like shit is constantly going wrong because you get ambushed off camera from everywhere and the structures other than the final gate break super fast, and the NPCs spend the entire time screaming at you about how horribly you're doing whenever anything breaks or the final gate is attacked, so the game is pretty much trying to make you stress out over your impending failure even though you're actually on track to win just fine.

It's interesting the amount of mechanics I've noticed missing from World and how often I couldn't care less that they're gone. They really trimmed the fat well.

finished up all village quests today as well as hub low ranks

if I wasn't playing with my brother I'd probably stall here on low rank armour OCD collecting but he's very much a rush on ahead to the next stage kinda hunter so he's eager to start high ranks tomorrow

I beat the final boss earlier, really weird fight to get used to but it's pretty cool once you do. Then the ending...or complete lack thereof. I'm glad I had it spoiled for me by leaks to lessen the disappointment of beating the final boss, getting to the point where MH games usually have some more quests to unlock with some really strong monsters and instead getting nothing at all while the "ending" isn't even a cliffhanger, it's just the middle of a story with the actual end hacked out to be released months later. Reaaaaallly sucks

today actually finished up just about all the Low Rank armours!... sans the pieces of Anjanath/Zinogre/Mizutsuke that require plates but I'm just leave that for now and truly focus on High Rank for reals~

So it IS possible to get a Healing Bubble/Power Drum/Shock Purr-rison ability set, I've just never seen it after checking dozens of times. I don't even think I want it anymore since Elder Dragons will be immune to traps anyway...

hit HR7 two days ago and since I've been focusing on updating my Long Sword collection to all available... probably still just pass on the Plate and Ruby required like I did for Low Rank armour

I dunno what the odds are on some of these high rank rarity 7 or higher parts are, but I actually seem like I'm getting them pretty easily. I've got full Zinogre, Magnamalo, and Rajang sets while only hunting them a handful of times.

Up to HR5. I really think Hammer is basically perfect in this game. I really don't know what else they could possible add to make it cooler. They gave you a way to block roars with Water Strike!

did some of the farming online with randoms. surprised the game can handle 4 players and 4 animals without lagging or catching fire. world made my ps4 sound like it was about to explode :/ . also join request not as good as sos but hey getting likes

I haven't followed the route, but I generally just mine the Lava Caves whenever it says there's a Mining Crop outbreak or whatever. But I keep mining until the map updates then leave.

it can definitely dip in fps depending on the monster/location, even worse if youre riding a monster but generally yea. still pc version cant come soon enough

Yeah, I have a set of leather armor just labeled "Mining" in the equipment loadout that I put on whenever I check to see if mining outcrops are hot in Lava Caves.

I remember in one multiplayer hunt I ran briefly to another area to grab some item real quick and when I returned to the monster fight the framerate dipped HARD into like single-digits. Must be something with how areas are loaded.
