But these controls are mind bogglingly stiff, almost like there's a delay. I've even modded it so that I can map the buttons to the classic controller but it's still so fucking rigid.

How did this revitalize the series again??

switch to a wired controller?

There may in fact be a delay.

I played the 3DS version and I didn't even finish it. The controls were just so frustrating.

Man I didn't have any issues with the controls. I don't doubt there are issues with it, but I just can't understand having problems with the controls.

DKCR controls great with the obvious exception of the motion controls. You mentioned modding, are you perhaps emulating on a PC that can't handle it? There really shouldn't be a delay.

Can't say I remember having any sort of input lag issues.
The motion control bits were annoying yeah, but aside from that I thought the game was pretty much amazing.

No, I am playing on a Wii with the classic controller, but the delay feeling was there even playing with the Wiimote.

And I don't think it's really an input delay, but the stiffness and the momentum of the controls kind of make it feel that way.

Never had a problem with the controls myself, at least on 3DS

I don't recall the controls being an issue, but it's not an amazing game. Tropical Freeze is significantly better in every way.

I had the same feeling when I played Tropical Freeze. Everything was so stiff and clunky I had to stop after like 5 hours because it just wasn't fun. I love platformers and I can put up with some clunkiness but TF was just awful.

It's also such a contrast to the SNES trilogy. Those movements were smooth as butter. This time around, the developers seemed to intentionally make DK feel "heavy" for lack of a better word.

Yeah its way different from the way the snes games play.

Clear your mind and try to enjoy them as a separate entity. Sometimes I wish they dropped the country part

Is DKCR the game where to gain momentum from jumping on an enemy, you have to tap jump rather than hold it down? I could not get used to that and dropped the game after just a few levels.

Yes, you have to time it perfectly. It's not very intuitive.

Yeah that's a huge change in a 2-d platformer that relies a lot on momentum, many times from the enemies you defeat. If Tropical Freeze fixed that I wouldn't mind picking that up. Being hardwired to play platformers a certain way for decades, changing a core mechanic is enough to ruin it.

Or it's just not as fun

There are other issues with Tropical Freeze beyond screwing with the mechanics but it's at least better than DKCR.

DKCR controls aren't good and the level design is nearly all misses. TF is better but not by much. I hated these games so much back in the day and literally 0 people on the board agreed.
