Unfortunately our US leaders believe it is. Conservative or liberal, they consider us to be in a geopolitical rivalry with China.The establishment wants deals like the TPP to beat China in global/third-world influence (for humanitarian causes, they assure us). The alt-right thinks they're scamming us.

The US wants to fight China. It's losing.

For perspective, America spends $700 billion on military per year (as "we don't want to be defenseless against other countries and terrorists" is one of few things the government can agree on). While China only spends $170 billion, less than a third of that amount.

Does China just not have the money to spend more? No. Do they have better things to do with their money? Yes.

Last year they spent almost three times as much on research and development as the US. ($378 billion vs. $134 billion)

They occupy very different roles on the world stage though. If China ever overtakes us as the top superpower, you will see their "defense" spending skyrocket. Being top dog doesn't come for free. Also, the U.S. spends well over $1 trillion yearly, including all of the military healthcare costs, black budgets, and other outlays.

Yep. It really scares me when I see people on the left move away from intellectual rigor. The Qanon righties bother me too, but for different reasons. I currently have no fear that universities will get taken over by people who legitimately believe Qanon shit, but unfortunately they might get taken over with people who think 2+2 can equal 5 because of post modernist shit.

Randomly jumped around the video and both times saw that disheveled looking soy factory making excuses for obesity in one of the whiniest tones I've ever heard then promptly closed the tab. That video is stupid.
