For the first time, an independent report of more than 50 worldwide experts has reached the conclusion that the Chinese government, with its presumed actions against the Muslim Uighur minority in Xinjiang, has broken every clause of the Genocide Convention of the UN.

The report was published on Monday by the think-tank "Newlines Institute for Strategy and Policy" together with the "Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights". [teep's note: clicking on this bit of the text in the original article links to the original report in English]

Chinese officials consistently label the Uyghur population, without distinction, as backwards, disloyal to the State, untrustworthy,42 or terrorists.43 In 2017, the XUAR Communist Youth League published a report with visuals on Uyghur backwardness.44 Markers of Uyghur identity are deemed anti-human, anti-society, and anti-civilization,45 reflecting a mindset labelled outdated.46 The Governments forced labor schemes in the region are described in propaganda reports as intended to transform the deeprooted, lazy thinking of rural villagers, terms mirroring the Governments views of Uyghur lifestyle and customs.47 In internment camps, Uyghurs are indoctrinated on the backwardness of their identity and forced to confess to their backwardness.48 According to first-hand testimony, camp guards have told detainees you are not humans,49 there is no such ethnic group as the Uyghurs,50 being an Uyghur is a crime,51 and, in one instance, you dont look like a human after the detainee was raped and struck by an electroshock prod.

China is too big to embargo, sanction or handle unilaterally. Doing so is the economic version of MAD.

You need multilateral action that decreases their global influence through isolation. This means massive free trade agreements that exclude China and collective defense agreements.

Unfortunately the opposite seems to be happening where a significant portion of the democratic world is embracing protectionism and isolationism which is exactly what China wants.

Once again, they were never allies. The USSR formed a non-aggression pact with Germany to save their own skin because they werent yet militarily prepared to handle an invasion from the Nazis. This was after years and years of the Soviets begging France and Britain to form a coalition against the Nazis; its not the USSRs fault that they kept refusing to.

The Red Army did spank the Nazis. That is true. The world does owe them that debt because they did help.

It is indisputable though that tankies eventually seized control and then put up gulags. And in the gulags and in their starvation campaigns like the Holodomor, they killed tens of millions of people. How many, nobody knows. The numbers do get exaggerated. But it was 50-100 million deaths from that. That top end is where the exaggeration is, but the brutal reality of it is true.

So the problem truly is that when things become a fervor around the State or worshiping a government that rules everything, gulags and slaughterhouses emerge. And starvation campaigns. It's just not going to work that way.

A federation of states, with each state managing state affairs and a federal government to oversee anything pertaining to all states...that could work though. When fueled by JFK optimism and even enlightened atheists + theists who work together. Like MLK and Bernie!

Totally not allies but agreed to invade Poland and divide the border with them. Also helped execute thousands of Polish civilians. Only tankies are so delusional as to think this was a good thing.

ssjevot is raising a good point though, that the trend of a Statist collectivist worldview...is to become fascists eventually. That is literally what every example in history shows.

The only collectivist model that works at scale is Martin Luther King's with modern technology. JFK optimism. American independence for individuals and no slavery to an official State. We have a Constitution in this nature - it can always be improved and it has mechanisms for improving it. And we can always improve in that vision with time.

But the only approach that has ever been shown to work at any modern scale without necessitating complete abandonment of human rights (Gulags and Holodomor)...is America.

Ive still never gotten an answer on why the Polish military declared war on the Nazis but not the USSR at the time and specifically told their soldiers not to attack the Soviets but to attack the fuck out of the Nazis.
