Still feel the same as I did when the purchase was announced: it's not a big deal. Timed exclusives are a possibility, but it would be stupid of them to keep their major IPs on Xbox and PC only permanently.

I still think many of the big titles will be everywhere, I think putting them out Day One on Game Pass while offering them for $70 on PS5 sounds like something Microsoft would see as a good advertisement for Game Pass while still making revenue from the PlayStation crowd, and smaller games will probably still be on Switch

Sounds more like to me that they're not cancelling anything already in development and are still leaving the door open for more mobile games & will continue to support TESO / FO76 on playstation and that's it.

I think they're covering their arses, and they'll play it by ear.

If the console race proves to be competitive this gen and it looks like having, say, ES6 as an XBox exclusive will shift more consoles, they'll obviously make it exclusive. If PS5 is well ahead on sales then they'll probably make it multiplat to make the most money from software sales.

It's a win-win situation for them, really.

Yeah I think the safe assumption is to treat it like all current Xbox first party games. They're exclusive to Xbox/PC unless otherwise stated. That's basically all they're committing to here.

Is it? Most of Bethesda's games have been more popular on PC and Xbox. Only really changed in the PS4 generation and even then most of their games flopped and Bethesda whined that PlayStation won't allow mods.

I'm trying to think of a single time where this wasn't the case, and the only one that comes to mind is Oblivion, but that had the advantage of coming out later than the Xbox 360 version. And even then, the PS3 version had its own issues.

Skyrim, on the other hand, was a lot better on Xbox 360.

And with Playstation also, Sony wouldn't allow a lot of mods, for no good reason I'm sure. I almost do want to just get an Xbox next time.

Honestly, you need to consider the situation Sony was in at that time. They had literally just gotten over the massive PlayStation Network hack, and were overly defensive about anything that could potentially cause another. likewise, they didn't want any chance of some kind of system level exploit.

Yeah exactly this. The new gen consoles aren't making direct profits from selling the hardware so I'd expect timed exclusives unless the XBOX already has a huge lead by the time these titles release.

That said, I'm expecting the 'timed' part of being an exclusive to be a much bigger window for first party IPs... Similar to how Sony have only just started releasing PS4 games on the PC... an entire gen later.

It's easier than ever to play all the games you want to really. You've got;
PS5/Probably Playstation Now/Maybe even PC?
Xbox Series X/Xbox Series S/PC/xCloud
Switch

Any combination of the three and you are able to play everything that isn't VR. Most of the massive PC exclusives have rather low system requirements as well if you care about those and most of them end up getting ported to at least one console.

Wasn't even that long ago we had two competing handhelds on top of consoles and all of that is now consolidated to Switch.

Forget the PC elitism and douchiness. The fact is that it's just a better way of playing games because of the flexibility. Given that you're posting on a forum and these places tend to attract people that are a little bit smarter than the general population, I would guess that you're more than capable of putting together the parts for a gaming PC.

PC gaming really has changed a lot in the past decade or so. It's far more consistent in terms of port quality and performance across a range of device standards. Due, in part, to Steam and Xbox One controller standardization.
