Do you think that includes you everyday carry, or just the literal cloth?

if you're taking it literally, a cloak or robe is about all that's covered by the phrase.

if we're being realistic, yeah that's clothes + EDC.

idk, if I could bring a cloak along, I'd certainly be better off for it.

find someone that can make a proper riding cloak out of black denim, then turn it into an oilskin.

i'd pay at least $400 for one if i could find a maker that would do it.

that's about what i'd paid for my custom "thieves guild" leather duster 15 years ago with the hidden pockets and sleeve tricks.

these days, i can't even find a properly fit jean jacket.

men's denim jackets that taper in at the waist like a tux vest? what the fuck? the skinny jean thing needs to be killed as a thing.

men wearing jeans that have useless pockets like they're women...like fine, you do you and all, but ffs, actual men with testicles still exist. who do i have to blow for a proper relaxed fit pair of jeans that aren't fermenized?

even "relaxed fits" half the time are stupidly tight.

if i wanted to deal with this shit, my hair would be in a man bun, my junk would be tucked, and jeans that might as well have their pockets sewn shut would be the norm.

oh, wait...it actually is the norm now.

The implied meaning is the clothes you are currently wearing. As in your misfortune was so sudden that it left you with nothing aside from what you had on you at the time. However I think the original meaning referred to the poor quality of material used for luggage. Not clothes but cloths thrown over ones shoulder. Taken this way there was very little you could pack to take with you.

The Mimi was a 72 foot sailboat originally built as a cargo barge in France in 1937. She was converted into a fishing trawler, then commandeered by the Nazis in WWII to transport supplies along the Brittany coast. In the 60s she was converted from a trawler to a sailboat. In the 1980s and 90s it was the focus of two TV series and sailed from New England to the Gulf of Mexico for several years teaching school kids about marine life and seamanship. In 2008 the ship sunk after a homeless man who was living aboard was kicked out and he took his revenge by opening the seacocks. She was refloated a few weeks later, but not before all the electronics were ruined, the diesel engine seriously damaged, and the wood colonized by freshwater clams. Efforts to save the ship were unsuccessful, and the Mimi was scrapped in July 2011.

(And for those who wonder what the Mimi has to do with being stuck on a deserted island, in episode 9 of the original series, the ship runs aground during a storm. The following episodes deal with finding food and water, building a new bowsprit to replace the one damaged in the storm, and repairing their radio.)
