Do you think people this tall have an unfair height advantage?

7'9 Nigerian Basketball player, Abiodun Adegoke is hoping to catch the attention fo the NBA after Shaq shared a viral footage of him on the court

The teen who has a towering height is seen dunking a ball with both feet STILL on the ground and if signed he'd be the tallest nba player ever

It shows him dunking a ball with ease at a development camp in Dubai

And despite the height, he moves with agility making short work of of the weak defense

Shaq shared the video as he's known to using his 7ft frame in devastating effect on the court as Adegoke would be 7 inches taller than any NBA player in history

Former Washington Bullets centre, Gheorghe Muresan who remains the tallest in the NBA in history at 7'7 whlie Manute Bol stood at 7'6

China's Sun Mingming is also 7'9 who holds the record for tallest basketball player in history to play professionally in the US having played for the Harlem Globetrotters

So far Adegoke has been overlooked by American scouts, perhaps due to controversy of his age as Nigerian media reports from 2016 gave his age at 17. At the time he was a student of a sports academy but he insists he's 18

Do you think players who are this tall have an unfair advantage?.

I wouldn't say they have a unfair advantage as the smaller guys probably can move around quicker.

Height definitely provides an advantage, but there are enough other aspects involved in playing basketball that it's far from an absolute one. See: all the tall people in the world that suck at basketball.

At high school and college level, yes. But at pros it starts to lose its advantage. Professional basketball is in the three point meta right now anyways, so strong interior play is not as much of the focus, plus you can't goal tend, so it is not like all because you are tall you have an inherent advantage on defense. If being super massively tall was a dominate characteristic, Tacko Fall would be the most dominate person in the sport, but ultimately he is a bench warmer because you still go to move around and shoot effectively, not just be tall.

early on maybe but later in life they suffer very bad back problems and heart problems ( a large heart isn't as good as it sounds)

I saw the video a few days ago. He's kind of awkward and clumsy. I don't think he has a chance in the NBA.

Someone that tall simply isn't capable of playing sports. like Muscles said his body is not going to be able to bear the strain, the human body isn't designed to be that big.

In theory, yes. In practice, not very often because there are a lot of other players who are tall enough and can often move better.

They do, and the strain of pro sports usually results in knee problems ending or shortening their careers

In the NFL the tallest dudes are 6'8 (and that is just OTs) and you don't get higher than that because it would destroy your knees

In the NBA you can get away with taller dudes because its not as physical and there is more emphasis on height but rarely do you see guys bigger than 7'1 or so, the guys listed were super tall even for NBA standards

I mean the days of the NBA taking any 7 foot player that showed even basic skills is over. While tall players are nice in the NBA, they need to establish at least a pretty decent game at the NBA level to get a serious look.

Really tall people often fall into mediocrity in the NBA.

Unless you have the mass like Shaq, or ability like a Yao ming.

Yeah I was gonna mention Yao who was really the only super tall player that was very successful. Shaq was massive and had skills just not tall that's why he was so dominant.

Here is one thing I always remember hearing someone say. "You can't coach height." So yeah those with the height advantage should use it. If they have the skills to go pro too, better yet for them. If not hopefully they can learn to use their God given advantage to their benefit.

They have said that in the past and thus why in the 90s and 00's we saw a lot of low skill players get into the NBA just because they were 7 feet tall at least. The problem was most of them never became even reasonable role players since they could not compete at an NBA level.

Now the NBA rarely gives those guys serious deals since say 2010ish, though I guess a few might be around in the G-League the development league for the NBA. Sure you can't teach height but the odds of a subpar NBA player becoming an average or better NBA player is like 4-5% at best.
