This last arc is pretty strong tbh, might throw p5r ahead of 4golden for me. I still think i like 4's countryside setting a lot more and those two back to back exposition dumps in 5 were pretty bad, but overall 5 might edge it out.

Of course, this is with extreme recency bias. Haven't even beaten the game yet.
I also forgot that they made dancing games for 3 and 5 that I'll have to dust off my vita for. It should be a nice chiller pace of gaming between Royal and Strikers.

Bummed neither has Yoshizawa tho

I will say, from what I can remember off the top of my head, none of the palace music has had an impact on me like the Persona 4 Nanako dungeon.

I did Haru for Christmas, but then Yoshizawa for Valentine's and White Day.

Probably would have done Haru all the way through if I played the original.

Pretty differently; it ends with the PT grabbing Joker on a road trip instead of letting him go home. Which leads directly into Strikers, I believe. Also Yaldabaoth is the final boss, of course, and Akechi doesn't survive in any capacity.

You know, the Phantom Thieves.

As for the latter, I think it's just that the government knows who the Phantom Thieves are and are keeping an eye on them, which doesn't sit right with them, so they decide to escape the surveillance.

Additional random thoughts as I install the dancing games on my Vita.

• Loved Yoshizawa and Dr. Maruki
• Love the crazy showtime attacks. Wish there were more.
• Akechi was great, especially towards the end.
• I think overall the cast is stronger than 4's and definitely 3's. They all had compelling and nuanced approaches to development--I think especially thanks to the last portion of the game.
• Yoshizawa > Akechi > Haru > Yusuke > Makoto > Morgana > Ann > Futaba > Ryuji (all good though, whereas I've always been kinda meh on Chie and Kanji)
• My final team was MC, Haru, Yoshizawa, Akechi. Haru and Yoshizawa were crit machines lol
• The plot managed to surprise me with some of its twists. I have some problems with the Shido stuff at the end but overall still a great time.
• Elizabeth > Lavenza > Margaret > Twins
• The only S. Links I did not finish are the twins (ugh fusion tasks), Arcade kid, and the politician.
• Non-party confidant ranking (off the top of my head): Takemi > Sojiro > Kawakami > Maruki > Hifumi > Iwai > Mifune > Ohya > Mishima (not counting Nijima and Igor bc they just track the plot)
• can't rank twins, Shinya, or Tora cuz I didn't complete them
• The Confidants were all a step above this time. 3 and 4 have some very forgettable ones but all of the ones in 5 are memorable somehow.

I wasn't super huge on Yoshizawa, but the new stuff in Royal is great and I feel adds to the story in a productive way, as opposed to Golden, which was occasionally great fanservice, but also felt more tacked on.

The third semester in Royal is definitely amazing. Up there with some of the peaks in P3's last month.

Honestly, literally everything about Akechi in third semester is so over the top edgy it rolls around to hilarious

Him as the nav in particular is one of my favorite things in the entire series, and it's a shame it's so short-lived.

I was surprised at how much I liked Yusuke in particular. He's so in his own world, it's great.

Since this is a pretty active Persona topic I'm going to ask opinions on whether I should keep playing P4G or not.

I loved P5 and I'm currently playing Strikers but P4G was really not grabbing me. I was about to start the dungeon for Shirogane and the game just feels like it's dragging. It's hard to not compare everything to P5 because I played it first but good lord these dungeons are so repetitive and trash. The story is also not super gripping (especially because it seems pretty obvious who the murderer is but maybe I'm wrong). The characters range from okay to good but Teddie is maybe bottom 3 RPG party members of all time.

It's been about 4 months since I played so should I power through or just cut my losses? Is the last half of the game significantly better than the first half?

The November-December stretch is the best part, I'd say, but I don't generally recommend people keep playing long games they're not that into.

As someone who also played P5R first before playing P4G, it really did seem inferior in almost every way but I enjoyed it as a whole. If you're not feeling it I wouldn't worry that much. I did end up mashing through a lot of the unnecessary stuff towards the end of my playthrough because I just wanted to play through the dungeons and finish the story - the characters and their interactions didn't grip me like P5R did.

either way these games got me interested in jRPGs again after not touching them for a decade. even made me play Yakuza: Like A Dragon which I think is something I would have completely skipped just because of the combat system

I'm in the same boat. Once I stopped comparing it to P5 I was able to enjoy it, though. If you've made it to Shirogane's palace without enjoying it I would say don't force it. IMO the story goes downhill after that anyway

Yoshizawa is so...dull. It doesn't help that her character is mostly reserved for the extra content, and until that point, she's kind of a generic nice girl who gets overshadowed by the other female PCs.

Are Persona Q and Q2 worth playing? I've never played an EO game but loved Dungeon Travelers 2.

I liked Q but I think I'm in the minority. Gameplay is repetitive. Serious persona fans will complain that it flanderizes the characters; can't really disagree there, but it didn't bother me. The music is really good and it has a few choice fan-servicey scenes.

Didn't play Q2, but I've heard conflicting reports that it's both an improvement and that it's way worse
