Ive always been underweight and 4 yrs ago I decided to start going to the gym and would try to gain weight, what I did was eat every 3 hours, I eat a whole food plant based diet because of digestive issues but yea drinking your calories helps, you digest it faster, so protein shake with avocado, banana, cacao powder, frozen fruits and plant milk for me, then red lentils pasta mixed with whole wheat pasta for the right high content mix of proteins with vegetables

anyway stick to nutrient dense food, high fatty stuff like nut butter, olives, avocados are your friends

I was eating fastfood and shit before and had always been underweight, made me feel uncomfortable so often that Id sometimes skip meals and its pretty bad if youre lookin to gain weight, even if it felt like I was snacking all the time it wasnt enough calories/proteins

Well, generally a pound = 3500 calories, so you will need a calorie surplus of 500/day if you want to gain a pound in a week. If you want part of that to be muscle, then you need to lift weights. Make sure you're getting adequate protein as well; at your weight try for 100g per day. Seeing as you're on a budget, a couple of protein shakes a day will probably do you good.

Lol I mean it depends on what you mean?

Just eat more. Per calorie, something like dry beans and rice are probably still going to be your best bet but it's obviously hard to gain weight eating that.

Eggs are probably pretty good when you balance cost, calories, and how easy they are to eat a lot of

  • chicken breast 3 times a day
  • rice (white/brown)
  • broccoli
  • potatoes
  • milk + raw protein powder (each morning)


do that for 3 month and see how it goes

I gained about 2-3 pounds a month for 6 months doing this (also went to the gym to lift weights maybe 3-4 times a week - not extreme weight lifting but general)

about 2-3 weeks in your appetite will change and youll always be hungry

Just buy a barbell for home and you can pretty much work out your entire body with different exercises with your barbell

working out will fill you out quicker (well for me it was)

Work out and eat. I could never gain weight and I started working out really hard and my appetite has increased a ton. I also try to overeat and Ive gained about 15lbs of mostly muscle.

it might also be my metabolism finally slowing down since I am 32 now, but I can still lose weight easily if I stop overeating
