When the biggest competitive community of your game decides not to use your new main battle mechanic, something's up. Singles and Doubles have vastly different metas, that's why a lot of the time Pokemon that are good in singles aren't necessarily also good in doubles. It has always been that way. Like for example Incineroar is NU in singles (which is the lowest tier), but in Doubles it is pretty easily one of the best Pokemon EVER, with a current 44% Usage Rate and a 76% Usage Rate in 2019's Ultra Series, that's with Pokemon like Mega Rayquaza and Primal Groudon/Kyogre available, and Inicineroar was still used more than all of them by a large margin. It seems weird to say but when they balance Pokemon nowadays it seems like they take into consideration doubles over singles, and it's been that way for a while since doubles are the official competitieve format, and Dynamax has always been just fine in doubles. Most competitive players actually love the current format. Ironically currently they're doing the Restricted Mon format (Every Legendary) and it's literally the most balanced it's ever been in the history of VGC in terms of usage. And it's ironic because I've been seeing more singles player complaining about how the meta is boring and stale this gen than ever. Its a clear difference in not only the visual appeal of a proper cohesive art style. Even as basic as it is, looks WAY more inviting to me as a video game. Its also the difference in imagination. Done by anyone with any semblance of passion, and adjacent to a room that has a thimble full of talent. You could create a ducking amazing Pokmon game. Pictures showing you surfing the sea on a Lapras, school of Magikarp swim by and a towering Shiny Garados emerging from the Sea. That shit is awesome.
