I mainly go in the mornings, when most people are not there as they dont wake up early enough, but please tell me more about how safe it is being packed liked sardines after 5:00 on a week day to conjugate at Wal-Mart totally not six feet apart.

I wear a mask everyone not named the gym, for reasons a previous poster stated with the constant sweat that should be obvious, but isnt to much of this board that rarely exercised before the pandemic or rarely exercises now.

I'm just saying that the person in your scenario, while they certainly exist, probably isn't the norm. People who wear masks and people who care about their fitness are more likely to cross over than not for the general population -- though by fitness I do strictly mean weight here, since there's not a lot of data on "weight lifters" as a group

With a tiny bit of brainpower, you can do at home what you can do at the gym. "I can't get the same workout" is a stupid cop out, I was in the Army, we didn't go to the gym every day and lift weights to get in shape, same with the Marine Corps. Those guys come out built like a brick shithouse.

I don't need to go to a bar to have a drink and you don't need to go to a gym to work out. You'll live, and that's the point.

If I have to go into a store to get something these days, it's usually the dead of night when it's relatively empty. Mask, sanitizer, get in, get out, go home, shower.

I don't fuck around when it comes to precautions and I'm hoping I won't have to deal with this much longer, but my peers sure as hell aren't helping.

I follow Tyrone Magnus on Youtube and for a couple weeks he kept talking about how much bs it was that gyms weren't open, and had videos on his local gym constantly breaking laws, to reopen themselves. F'n ridiculous. Your telling me you can't buy a set of weights to keep yourself fit during a quarantine? Hell, 4.75 Gallon water jugs are only a few bucks, use those until gyms are allowed to reopen.

It's the group fitness classes like spin. This isn't guys lifting weights by themselves.

This is the takeaway I got from the article too.

I'm usually at my gym 4 days a week, and I've masked exactly once as more or less a trial. If I had to cite a percentage of gym goers at my location who mask up, it's probably <10%.

I think I may have had covid last April, and it was a point in time where my area was on lockdown. Only possible point of transmission for me would have been the store. (As a reference point, outside of the gym and at home, I mask 100%)

In 9+ months at the gym since it reopened, I'm unaware of any outbreaks or even any cases through my gym - masks aren't required but the classes are not in session, social distancing is recommended (and enforced to an extent, as half of the cardio machines are off limits), and most people do a halfway solid job distancing.

I feel far safer maskless at a gym than I would maskless in a grocery store.

I am convinced that the people who insist on going places maskless are misanthropes, plain and simple.

I wont get covid (but others could)
I dont feel sick (but you could be asymptomatic)
the gym/store/office is safe, bro (but you go more places than just that)
but I may develop depression/alcoholism/suicidal tendencies if I wear a mask! (Then youre frail, but also, so your alternative is taking down other human beings, several of them just so you can feel happy?)

Youre not entitled to having the rest of the planet partake in your own measures to feel secure. If you want to stay at home all day that is all on you, those people working at the bar or that own the bar also have bills to pay and have to eat, you do not have the right to decide on the behalf of everyone else if they get to earn a living at a job that you want to dub non-essential. Suicides rates increased last year in correlation to the increases in unemployment, bankruptcies, and homelessness that were brought on because of the lockdowns in several states, but please try to be dishonest and make it about the masks, and not lockdown protocols crushing small businesses from being able to operate. The fact that youre getting upset at a person working out at a place during hours there are less than 4-9 people in the building is absolutely fucking hilarious, even more so when some of the bozos in this topic go on about how hundreds of people crowding at a Wal-Mart or Publix at peak hours is perfectly fine because everyone is wearing a neck gaiter or generic non-N95 mask that is way less effective than a N95 mask.
