Carjackings? What example are they using, GTAV - a game that's like older than the lawmaker is?... lets check

> ...

Oh, nothing.

Wait

> Walker said he reached out to lawmakers in Chicago after noticing similarities between carjackings in video games and what's happening in the real world. "When you compare the two, you see harsh similarities as it relates to these carjackings," Walker told the Times.

Well duh, baka! Yes, opening the door to a car in a came is EXTREMELY similar to opening the door to a car in real life...

Anti-violent video game rhetoric is a fairly bipartisan thing, actually. Singling out democrats here ignores republicans' history of doing exactly the same thing. Some pearls get clutched, some clips get taken out of context, some dubious correlations get cited, nothing of consequence happens, everyone goes on with their lives for the next year or two until somebody else gets uppity about it again. I wouldn't be too worried.

Yeah. Lets forget that the Trump admin created an entire video highlighting violence in video games.

Both sides are just awful about it.

Both sides are awful when it comes to violent games. Sure Hilary Clinton has spoken out against them, but so has Trump (he blamed one of the shootings under his term on violent video games), one of his admins and even Rush Limbaugh. Neither side is innocent.

Also, its just one lawmaker, not the democrats as a whole. Stop the misinformation. Its just going to be thrown out like all the others anyway.

Really, it's mostly just old people, with no regard for political affiliation. They feel now what their grandparents felt about rock and roll, which was in turn what their grandparents felt about the radio.

Yea; though I do feel the dems are the party more prone to pearl-clutch when it's non-religious issues. I mean all it takes is a FPS and you'll get some nutbag saying that they're school-shooting training simulators or something. It's stupid either way though and I feel certain that most of the people making these claims don't play video games at all and think it's like in the movies where every person playing CoD is one step short of a mass murder rampage.

Anti-violent video game rhetoric is a fairly bipartisan thing, actually.

If by "bipartisan," you mean far heavier on the left than right but not without some on the right, sure. Keep in mind that CT was home to perhaps the TWO most vehement ant-videogame senators... and then when one didn't seek re-election, we got another anti-videogame asshole, this time it was a guy who believed TMNT was too violent for kids.

In fact, when you look at most of the high profile hearings, they're invariably led by Democrats (often ones from CT, because the state is deadset on being an embarrassment to the nation)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_congressional_hearings_on_video_games

...actually, I was going through a long list of incidents and legislation, and most of them were led by the same fucking guy -- Joe fucking Lieberman -- so it might not necessarily be the greatest of samplings. Had the Gore ticket won in 2000, violent video games may have been outlawed.

Its funny because nowadays theres all sorts of documented evidence that shows that there isnt any apparent connection between playing video games and violent behavior.

So these rare people that spout on about it are science deniers right up there with flat earthers and anti-vaxxers

It's whichever party is in control of the culture at the moment really. Left or right; doesn't matter. You'll get the pearl-clutchers clambering about things like violence, sex, and whatnot. The framing will change to fit with the narrative of whatever party they're appealing to even if it doesn't make any sense. Like, back when it was prohibition they'd take Irish immigrants and frame them as hopeful immigrants whose chance at a better life in America was ruined by booze, or evil catholic monsters intent on subverting honest, good, working American values with their booze depending on who they were trying to rile up that day.

Like, when it comes to women in revealing outfits, it's 'objectifying women' if they're talking to a left-wing outfit or 'selling sex to kids' if it's a right-wing outfit, or whatever changes in the message is needed for that particular set-up.

ATM since the left holds the cultural power you'll see the people who want to ban this trying to appeal to them more; so expect things like 'it's portraying minorities as violent criminals' and what-not. Course if the right was in power it would be 'teaching your children how to commit crimes' or whatever fits the current need. Either way the goal is the same, rile up pearl-clutchers so the person gains power.
