I physically cant eat steak beyond medium-rare, but if people want it well done for safety reasons, sure. Nobody can tell me it tastes better at that level of cooked though.

I grew up in a household that cooked all meat even beyond well done which made me not like steak all that much. Once I hit my teenage years I slowly started ordering and cooking it more rare and now I can't imagine eating it in any other way than medium rare.

It was tough to get past the 'red is blood and gross' idea that was instilled in me for that long though.

This might be an absurd request, but can anyone find a video where a cook actually demonstrates the "rest your steak" theory by cutting into a steak as soon as it's off the grill?

The conventional wisdom is that doing so would ruin the steak, as cutting a steak before it has rested and slightly cooled will result in the juices leaking out. This leaves the steak tough, dry, and undesirable. I subscribe to the theory myself (and so does seemingly everyone who talks about grilling), but I've NEVER seen anyone actually show us the fuck-up on film.

And yeah, I know that this is essentially asking a cook to film themselves ruining their own steak... but people spend tons of money creating their YouTube videos. Ruining a $30 for a video experiment that might not even exist online is a worthy investment imo.

The steak also continues to "cook" while it's resting, so it definitely will affect timing if you want to get the temperature right.

A good steak can be great if well done, but it's just not as juicy. I can eat any good steak regardless of how well its cooked because it's freaking steak!

It really depends on the cut. I'll go as high as medium well for less expensive cuts, but I do medium on better cuts and will go as low as medium rare for prime rib. Most of my concern is getting too much juice on my plate and potentially making my side impossible to pick up (rice especially).

The dangerous bacteria is only on the outside of the steak. It can be as rare as you want in the middle and still be safe.

In a way that's almost worse! A well cooked and seasoned medium or medium-rare shouldn't need sauce of any kind, especially not such a basic one. This is blasphemy. This is madness!

Medium. I actually prefer the taste of medium-rare, but I don't like the texture as much.

Also it must be a sad existence to be a person that can't taste multiple things at the same time. Sauce on a steak doesn't ruin the steak taste, it just adds the sauce taste. So if you like the sauce there is nothing to 'ruin' by putting a sauce on a steak.
