• 'Father' is also being phased out, with the university asking workers to refer to dads as 'non-birthing parents'.
• Some of the other changes include replacing 'breastfeeding' with 'chestfeeding' and 'mother's milk' with 'human or parent milk'.

I'm always torn on this stuff.
Labels don't matter to me much, same with gender roles and stuff. So, I think we should remove terms like mail man and keep it as mail carrier, but it shouldn't be offensive to anyone to be called a man or woman unless the person is trying to force a label onto someone they see as less than.
When I'm called a ma'am or something, I usually just play it off cause I like girls. It's almost a compliment and rarely meant offensively. Most people who try to label others are obvious asses and not worth my time.

The thing about it is that this is even believable in the first place. Thats the problem. Years ago this would have been dismissed as a gimmick, even if there was a link. Now people can troll with it an no one is sure whether they serious or not. That said this kind of "real life satire" is still much better than the other kind which I mentioned earlier.

looks like it's not official university policy and they're not suggesting to replace the terms entirely, just use them alongside the existing terms

The one that gets me is that university in the UK wanting to ban terms like "breastfeeding". Literally every human being has what are classified as breasts. Not functional mammary glands, perhaps, but breasts? Yes. Everyone can get breast cancer because they have breast tissue. Dumbasses gonna dumbass though.

If they want to talk specifically about a parent, they could just use their name. I think it's very similar to our pronouns of He/Her/They. There are only three categories there but they work fine just like that and we don't have to create anymore. I feel father/mother/parent should work the same.

edit: I have trouble imagining a scenario where someone gets asked, "Are you this child's parent?" and then that person gets offended by gender insensitivity.

Oh. I think its dumb, too. I just guessing at what they want. Personally, I still call my mom and dad mom and dad. They seem fine with it...

Parent is a word. Who cares.

Only difference that matters is if someone is recovering physically from labor or surgery.

Parents should all get paternal leave. Extra time for medical recovery.
