I wish.

I went into Match just now solely to support the stock, not really caring if it plummeted like normally happens when I invest. And I took this opportunity to practice Stops so I could get better at them and.....messed up again. It hit my stop pretty much immediately and I made $4 on a $26k investment.

Don't get into Bitcoin if you're not planning to leave stuff in there long term.

It's likely going to be 200-300k by this time next year so just buy and hold and don't worry about its day to day. Bitcoin does this all the time.

Oh yeah, this is the game plan, but I also like to have good averages on stocks I hold long, if you haven't noticed >_> Figured after the Tesla buy, if bitcoin cracked resistence at 50, it's off to the races. My initial inkling was to wait for a pullback though to go in heavy, which then I didn't do. I'm gonna stay put, but dip buy opportunities would be nice!

Saw this today: .3% of all human energy consumption goes to mining Bitcoin.

Since almost all electricity generation worldwide releases carbon dioxide as a byproduct, this means that, in effect: One bitcoin transaction releases 272 kilograms of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere

Going to be honest guys, if Bitcoin doesnt implode on itself its eventually going to be made illegal

We are probably going to have ways to cheaply generate energy without fossil fuels soon. Once the cost of power generation using those methods is lower than via fossil fuels, the oil industry dies. The market sees the writing on the wall - that's why oil stocks are so low right now.

So Ive been teaching my friend about earning reports and trend analysis, etc. As such, he went into Zillow with me yesterday. I intended on holding until tomorrow AM but I wanted to show him how to sell using limit orders and whatnot. He uses Robinhood, which I am unfamiliar with, so I was guiding him over the phone. In short, we sold Zillow at around 8% AH gain. Its currently at 13%! Wild stock. I made about 12% total on it, a sweet $2,300 gain.

What is mining Bitcoin anyway?

Cryptocurrency transactions are "confirmed" by other computers solving complex equations. These equations are by intent made to be complex to require a LOT of computing power to be secure. (somehow? I don't know the specifics)

And so "mining" bitcoin involves lending your computing power (form your CPU or GPU or dedicated mining hardware) to assist with this confirmation process. When a new block is "confirmed" a reward is given to the person who finished the block. So you could get very lucky and be the person who gets rewarded often or you could mine for a long time and not get the reward. For this reason people will join mining pools to spread this reward more evenly.

Bitcoin in particular is an energy hog, but other coins require significantly less computer power and as a result sap significant less energy.

Right now $250,000 of bit coin is mined every 10 minutes. Even with a halving it's still ludicrously profitable to be first

Yeah, I'm pretty convinced the free market is going to end the global warming problem on Earth, not government or international regulations. Once the cost of green energy gets below the cost of fossil fuel extraction, we are looking at a whale oil level extinction event for fossil fuels.
