Because "both sides" implies that both sides are equally or even remotely comparably awful, uncooperative, or opposed to the norms and values of democracy and equality.

The people who say that snarkily are hardly even capable of making use of both their brain cells. Not people worth listening to.

because one side is several orders of magnitude worse than the other, yet it's always the better side that's expected to change to accommodate the worse.

it's literally an abusive relationship. pretending each side is equally responsible for the current situation is farcical.

The right overwhelmingly supported a fascist. This "both sides" argument is nonsense.

If were talking about American politics, then, sure, there are tons of areas where Democrats deserve criticism.

Its just...a bit weird that that criticism pops up when people are talking about how the GOP incited a coup.

In a vacuum, there's nothing wrong with that, but the context, its usage is usually trying to make republicans look less bad via throwing dirt on dems.

It's adorable because those people are really mocking themselves since it really is both sides manipulating everyone into believing false hope.

Not all of us are fortunate to have immediate family that agree with our political leanings.

I think there's a difference between saying that "both sides are equally bad" and "both sides are complicit in getting things to where they are".

Because just saying both sides without noting which side is worse when one side is clearly worse inherently helps the worse side.

It's seeking a false balance but creates an imbalance just by the way its phrased.

That's why it's literally the favorite tactic of abusive people. They muddy the waters by treating abuse and anger about abuse as equally bad, as a means of defending their bad behavior or seeking sympathy. That's the entire point.

So when you use that framing, you're importing that type of dynamic into our politics and it's had disastrous results.

I think this: i think for the most part, both sides are fine. The vast majority of your average person has absolutely no interest in politics and are just people. However, the media and social media makes it look like the extremists on both sides are some kinda big group and they aren't. I think both sides are pretty good as is.
