Bremerhaven is a separate city? I thought it was considered a Stadtteil of Bremen

There are plenty of "real reasons" like that. Those are indefensible though.

There is one completely legitimate concern about DC Statehood though. Not that it comes anywhere close to outweighing the benefits (like 3/4 a million people no longer having their votes ignored and overwritten), but it is there. The reason I'm being coy about it is because I don't want to give ideas to the bad faith republicans on this board

DC can vote for president, and as of the early 60s has a couple of electoral college votes, but doesn't have any actual representation, and any local laws need to go through the federal congress.

There's no obligation for the "federal district" to be the entire square.
The better idea would be to reduce the district to the actual government parts, and roll the rest of the city into Maryland.

I dunno. I'm all for Puerto Rico being a state. Thats well overdue. But I feel like the nation's capital should be a "neutral ground", so to speak.

My understanding is that DC was not able to call for federal assistance during the capitol insurrection because there was no governor which would have had the authority to do so, so, this has changed my perspective on the matter.

Article 1, section 8, clause 17, which appears to be optional anyway.

Actually, the land that Washington D.C. sits on was ceded by Maryland: the land Virginia ceded was retrocessed prior to the Civil War. Of course, neither Washington D.C. nor Maryland want retrocession, which seems like a pretty firm argument against it.
The solution is to make it a state. It won't happen because it will get filibustered and Joe Manchin would literally file the motion for one of his Republican colleagues if they were, for some reason, unable to do so themselves he literally filed such a motion for Sen. Isakson against his own legislation, IIRC.
