It's pretty cool. I also actually started playing F1 2021 since it's "free" with Stadia subscription. The game makes no sense to me and is way too in-depth though.

You guys follow F1? Is it something worth getting into?

@pinky0926 I feel like you're someone who would watch F1. Mainly because you're European and that seems to be a popular market for it

Ya, Ferrari has been shit and Mercedes has been dominant for almost a decade.

I am pretty sure F1 was the first sporting event to close down last year, as the first race was supposed to be in China.

At some point, Ferrari...Scuderia Ferrari switched their production away from cars, and into ventilators.

The story of F1 is pretty crazy.

All sports are *'ed for last year, but it sucks because it looked like it could have been a nice season with Ferrari, Mec, and Red Bull going at each other.

....I think @Parappa09 keeps one eye on it as well.

I've played a few of the F1 games last gen, and have gotten into the sport as a result. It's fun stuff, minus the part where Hamilton wins everything.

The driving seems insane to me. Like, it seems incredibly hard to consistently win, but people like Hamilton seem to do that?

And then the car work. Is that just an insane combination of money, R&D, and really good engineers?

Well, that would be a yes.

F1 generally speaking is top-scale performance.
Funny thing is, the most iconic race, Monaco would probably not be sanctioned today.

What do you mean? What don't you get about overtaking? Drivers are allowed to defend once iirc, but they can't keep swerving back and forth to keep someone from passing.

Then there's DRS and DRS zones, which are basically flaps that open to increase speed if the driver is within a second of the car in front. It was introduced solely to increase the number of overtakes in S race.

Why not?

I guess what I was asking about overtaking is, what makes it hard to do? What's the difference between a good and a bad overtaker?
Stay behind a car to be able to draft being them, then at a good point use DRS and pass them?

In the DRS zones yes. Which are straights.

But Drafting is considered dirty air in F1.
The aromantics of F1 are lightyears beyond NASCAR.

It's just against the rules. Not always strictly enforced, but it's a rule for safety reasons, I think.

I suggest getting motorsport manager on PC.

I wanted to get into f1 but aren't only like 3 of the teams competitive?

Honestly it's only been 1 competitive team for several years now. Mercedes now and Red Bull before that dominated. But there are some great battles between teammates still, and in the midfield teams. There's a whole subreddit for that, Formula 1.5.

Also, I've always followed the drivers more than the teams anyway. Kimi is my spirit animal.

What's like the ratio between how good the driver needs to be, to how good the car needs to be.

Can a bad driver in a good car beat a good driver in a bad car?

Ask Daniel Ricciardo.

He's an excellent driver that can't get a good seat in F1.
A few years ago he sat out Monico in favor of the Indy 500.
He's going for the Trifecta, and I hope he gets it.

As per usual the car that ran in Monico broke down...and he basically said the Drive...'Yup, sucks doesn't it?'

Not even joking.

F1 is a racist sport that is almost 100% white.

Lewis Hamilton is the only black driver theyve ever had in F1 history and hes also the best driver theyve ever had.

Karma is beautiful.

Wouldn't they mainly be because it's such an expensive d

Because he is arguably one of the best drivers in the history of F1.

It's kind of an unspoken rule even though there is a specific rule for it. The rule is pretty vague if I remember correctly. It is about safety but also about the "prestige" of the race.

[LFAQs-redacted-quote]

Also the Senna documentary and the Rush movie Ron Howard did a few years back. Both of those will be good introductions to the sport.

Also TC, if you start to follow F1, follow this guy. Probably the most likable guy....ever. Super easy to root for, especially in the underdog role.

I had vague interest in Button, but that was mostly due to growing up in the same town as him (or not really, but he went to school there while being from a neighbouring village) but beyond that I had no interest in the sport.
