Because they think poor people shouldn't enjoy themselves in any way and/or just plain old jealousy.

I get mad when I see that, because Im irrational and think that their decisions effect me on a deep emotional and physical level that will worm itself into every facet of my persona possibly turning me into the hulk and Ill end up on the news and then canceled

If your friend tells you that he needs money to cover rent so you give him some, and you find out he didn't spend it on rent he spent it on a new video game console, you would feel cheated.

It's the same mentality, but with taxes. People are constantly told that it's important for government to provide support to the underprivileged and that you're a bad person if you don't agree. So when somebody sees an individual who is likely benefiting from their taxes using their own money to buy junk they don't need, it feels like a betrayal of the system. It's made doubly worse by the fact that you can't even call it out without being accused of hating the poor.

basically this, but i'd say it 'annoys' me more than it 'upsets' me. i know people who are so fucking irresponsible with their money and i just dont understand. i've witnessed people be so poor their electric gets turned off only to turn around and buy a new GPU two months later instead of building up savings, then that person complains about how the whole world is unfair the next time their power is turned off.

or people who are poor enough to collect welfare / food stamps but spend the money they do have on stupid ass shit like new iphones. it just doesnt make sense.

i feel like people who lean on / rely on society to provide for them owe society the basic responsibility of being semi-smart with money. but it'd be near impossible to track and enforce anything so welp

While people irrationally get upset about anything, the typical thing is more that you see these dumbasses who need loans, get advances, borrow money, etc while claiming they're barely scraping by, but then buy a new TV or get a tattoo. Then there are the even worse people who do all that, but their kids are the ones who suffer the most.

co-worker was telling me the story of his BIL who had recently purchased a jetski or something for like $3k. when someone asked him "but don't you have that big bill due in like 2 weeks?" he was like "yeah but thats two weeks away. ill come up with the money somehow". i was flabbergasted.

I personally wouldn't get upset, but I'd find it hard to feel any sympathy for them when they're short on cash. Spending big bucks on something that isn't a necessity, especially when there are more budget friendly alternatives, isnt something I'm going to advocate for. But people are free to spend their money however they choose. If I'm allowed to be irresponsible and mismanage my money, then I suppose everybody has that right lol.
