It's been 2 or 3 days now, i forget already. I wanna say tuesday was my last cig. Just super tired and run down since then. The boredom hits harder now too. Got jitters here and there, like i'm all antsy

Definitely feeling the irritability today. wasn't feeling it so much prior

also getting some gnarly heartburn idk if it's related. i'm not "craving" a cig as far as i can tell at least.

it's just annoying because cigs were like fast-forward buttons for me. like "oh shit need to kill 5-10 min better smoke"

I would say switch to something like American Spirits. I've also cut down a ton on my smoking, to the point where I don't even really enjoy it - I used to smoke like two or three per leg of my commute and now when I have to drive to work I just have 3/4 of one.

it really starts to suck once the physical withdrawal really kicks in after 72h and then stays sucky for a few weeks while you break the mental addiction / habit aspect.

i found the patch helped me quit every time i attempted and was what i did for my final, successful attempt.

in the meantime, find something else to do for 5-10 minutes. get a game on your mobile that you can play a round or two of. check CE. anything but spending money on your own eventual suffering and death.

something that really helped keep me off tobacco was realizing that the part of quitting that is the worst (first few days / week) is the part i repeat the most with every attempt. so after i got over the worst part, whenever i'd have a craving again i'd just tell myself "you don't wanna deal with the withdrawal again and reset yourself back to day 1". i view each day i have under my belt as progress that will be erased if i relapsed.

i also made a point to tell everyone i knew i was quitting to help hold me accountable. having to look people in the eye and say "yes, i failed AGAIN" was a good motivator for me.

YOU GOT THIS BRO

This is actually due to your recommendation of Spirits. They burn longer than the slow heat death of the universe and especially the menthol ones are strong. It's a gambit, quitting using them can work, but they hit like a truck if you're used to lights.

I feel you TC. I shot myself in the foot. For a little over a year I vaped but all the stores, prices and availability of that equipment went to hell for covid in my city. Switched to American Spirits and trying to quit. Been smoking cigs for like two months now and I know I gotta stop.

oh and the longer you are addicted the harder it is to quit. every month you put off quitting is one more month the addiction grows stronger. get it over with and quit sooner rather than later, unless you just plan on paying $7/day to slowly kill yourself for the rest of your life.

Lol, well I mean I used to smoke 2 or 3 American Spirits per leg.

@OP - Quitting cold turkey is statistically the better method, but the success rate is still not that great. I do wish you luck. THere's actually a public service run by the government where you can sign up for tips and encouraging texts periodically, and you can text a number for words of encouragement when you're feeling a craving if you're interested in something like that.

Yeah it is definitely rough the first two to three weeks, I had to indulge in another vice just to make it through. I bought a new video game right before I quit as well as a bag of weed and that seemed to help a lot.

nothing wrong with using it to help, imo. the way it approaches quitting in 3 stages is nice. by the time you've worn the 3rd step for 2-3 weeks you barely notice when its finally off.

I'm glad you're going for it. I don't like seeing good people have disproportionately awful effects from what would seem to be small shit. What do you think helps the most? My aunt only quit because it threatened to kill her via some sort of congenitally-assisted gum infection.

Honestly if I didn't just quit cigs but had these symptoms I'd assume I have covid

Fatigue, body aches, headaches, mouth and throat dryness are big ones. Lack of focus is hitting me pretty hard as well. Little trouble sleeping too

First few days is the worst craving you've had in your life, all day, where you really need to buckle down and be disciplined.

Then come the flu symptoms, sometimes severe. Then the lethargy, almost desensitized personality, then you're back to "normal" after at most a full 30 days without smoking.

It's a long, arduous process.

In my experience quitting at random times...

After a couple of days I start to feel this sort of dull buzzing sensation in my head and I have a harder time concentrating. That happens for a couple of days. Get some irritability.

For a longer period of time I have a harder time staying awake on the road. But that could just be because I don't usually sleep enough and the stimulant was helping me stay awake in general >_>.

If you're talking about cravings in general, then I basically don't think about it until... I do. Like I'll just randomly think "A cigarette sounds good right about now." And then that's all I can think about for several minutes until I either smoke or let the craving pass. Sometimes I go and make myself smoke before a meeting or something because I don't know if I'll have a craving during the meeting and I'd rather avoid it.

I had panic attacks when I quit. I cant describe them but when I was going through withdrawal and had the urge to smoke, I would get this rush through my body and it felt like I couldnt breathe. Like my body was convinced i needed a cigarette to breathe. I also got bad chest pains... quitting was no joke.

Remove any visual reminders of smoking like ash trays, lighters, etc from your residence

Avoid smoker friends/family for a week or so

Establish the parts of the day you smoke most, then learn to live thru those times without smoking. For me, it was when first waking up in the am, while driving, after eating, after sex, and when drinking.

You really got to want it. Youll never quit if you dont genuinely want too

your mind becomes preoccupied with the thought of having a cigarette / nicotine and you just crave it. you start feeling irritable or get a headache and your mind goes "this horrible feeling i'm experiencing right now will go away immediately if i just have <insert addiction here>". it's especially bad in situations where your habit kicks in, like how i would always have a smoke first thing after getting in the car, or immediately after finishing a meal.

Same, I actually went down the line and got down to 0mg and now just huff for the sole purpose of that I enjoy the act of and vaping/smoking

Its hard though - when I quit cold turkey the best I found to do is get a bong and rip it until my lungs would cry ( ;_;).. do a bunch of tricks and nose inhales until you trick your brain into thinking oh here it is

You can still sort of smoke/vape at 0 nicotine too.. itll satisfy you to the point eventually itll be weird sucking on a tiny stick for smoke
