I mean I probably will sell earlier. I just have those in place in case it squeezes hard while I'm not looking as I do have to work (from home) pretty soon. I know the Northern Pacific corner went from $150 to $1000 in like a few minutes so I don't want to be on the other side of the rocket launch by the time I'm aware of what's happened.

Well, that was 1901, so all the trading was being done by people on the floor of the NYSE. I don't know if it could still happen like now but in case it does, best to have a limit order in place.

You know, I really don't need this level of volatility in my life. Went from a moderately profitable day at open to my most profitable day ever and then into the red in about an hour and a half. Weirdly enough after all that I am currently a little in the green for the day (though red on Gamestop), and if the market closed now would be at an ATH for closing prices.

If I was being totally objective I would probably be more aggressive and buy more GME but I think this is about as much as I can handle emotionally before starting to risk bad decisions.

I did it, its stupid and its dumb but I bought 65 GME at $71

I set a 35 share sell order at $150 and another 30 shares at $500. i dont expect these to trigger (especially the second) but if it goes that high I do want it to go off

I'm not going to panic sell until at least february begins and I have solid info that the peak has passed, but i'll revisit profit harvesting at some points as it goes up

what

You do not want to hold that stock until February. The actual value is like $7. I know the WSB gang is crazy, but it won't stay at these levels long. I doubt it will be there next week. Eventually it'll crash and they'll find a new stock to pump.

I just realized that February is in a week lol, I'm a bit of a dolt and was thinking you were talking about holding for like a month. Nonetheless I wouldn't want to hold that thing for more than a couple days.

I'm not against these kinds of plays because I've done them successfully, just saying that you don't want to be the guy holding the bag. This thing will end very, very badly for those people.

i bought 20 at 58 last week and sold 10 for 140 today.

Made a profit and have 10 free shares that i'm gonna just let ride.

I bought 1000 amc at around 4.15 average and sold 10 calls for about .70 a share. Trying to debate what i want to do for buying calls with amc still. I was thinking June with a 5.5 buy thats 2 dollars a share. I'm so hesistant to spend almost half the price of the stock on a call. March is only 40 cents cheaper per share for 3 less months though

According to this source, shorts are covering but are being immediately replaced with new shorts, preserving the sky high short interest. I guess the new shorts have a breakeven point at a much higher level, but, on the other hand, they've had to put up much more margin to start with.

It kinda makes sense. The assumption is that it WILL go down eventually (we all know this) so they keep doubling down on shorting. It's bold but it seems foolhardy to think it will work *this time*.

I don't understand shorters
Sure, GME is a overvalued bubble (and isn't worth more than $10 at best) but it's momentum is so strong so if you decide to gamble why not join the fun?
This is much more likely to rise than to fall, and the reward for rising is much higher than the potential crash
I mean, I don't see GME going down 30% in one day, but I can see it going up over 60% (and happened today)

Hedge fund compensation has something to do with this I think. A hedge fund manager usually gets paid each year, 2% of assets under management and 20% of profits over some benchmark. But they don't receive negative income if the fund loses money or even if it suffers a 100% loss. It's in the manager's interest to take aggressive risks because he participates heavily in the gains but not as much in the losses.

I doubt many of the fund managers would be willing to short GME if it was for their personal account.

As long as you can afford to cover and not get closed out of your position via a margin call, isn't shorting GME just like a guaranteed win in the long run? All you have to do is hold/cover until it happens.

I've never shorted so I could be wrong about how this works

No. Even ssuming you short at a high enough price point where it eventually drops below that. (Like say you short at $60 a share and it hits 50 in 2 weeks) its possible that the interest you are paying outweights any gains you make

Also, you have finite capital no matter who you are. There is no theoretical upper limit to how high the stock can go. VW became the world's most valuable company at the top of the squeeze. Supposing you do have enough capital to ride it out, you are going to be risking a massive amount of money to make a little. You could do other things with that capital, like, buy stocks.
