i used to crossdress as a hobby when I was in way better shape and came into a community where people were using that term affectionately, and they were very intentionally using it for cismen. and in my experience outside of a few bad eggs that could very easily be using way worse terms for transpeople as is their wont, that's still largely the case. it's used for cute camguys who hide their faces, and anime characters like astolfo or whatever

its totally cool if you don't wanna be called that, you don't have to go by anything you're not comfortable with. but i outright take offense to people going into another community, in this case the gay anime fan community, and telling them the word that they've been using for years to refer to one thing is now offensive because someone else has misinterpreted it to refer to something entirely different. it feels like one subgroup trying to steamroll another

Even if you were right (which you're not), then at best, without the existing use of the term to refer to trans people, which has absolutely happened...

You're still looking at a term meant to diminish cross-dressers as reflections of the people who interact with them AND promote the idea that a man is meant to feel uncomfortable for being attracted to someone of the same gender.

And that's what it boils down to: the idea that a man should recoil at the idea that the person he's attracted to is not the what he thought they were.

This leads. To people. Getting killed.

I read your post and appreciate your comment, especially that it's speaking from experience, but in the circles I frequent it appears the needle's turned on that notion. I don't think this is the same as reclaiming "queer" et al. It just seems like the word's entire foundation is based on demeaning/dehumanizing. Cyric put it nicely, imo
