I don't see how that's ironic, liking something just because it's not well known is just a bad as liking something just because it is well known
So you dislike bandwagoners, just as much as those that don't bandwagon?

Also having a emotional reaction to why people like what they like is really unhealthy.

It is only acceptable to like things that are mediumly known
I'm saying it's stupid to like things specifically because it's popular (or not popular in the cases of hipsters and counter culture types)

I like things that are super popular such as Pink Floyd and Lord of the Rings but also like lesser known things.

Anyone can enjoy a beer. Not sure why those who don't hardly drink alcohol if at all are chiming in being backseat drivers.

I just watched the movie Another Round and I feel it's worth recommending to those involved in this discussion. It's two primary focuses are alcohol and intelligence. And it stars Mads Mikkleson from Death Stranding!

I've always appreciated good beer, but ever since I cut back a lot, I appreciate it a lot more. Plus, now I don't feel as bad if I spend 15 or 20 bucks on a 4 pack as I did when I was drinking all the time in my bachelor days.

Anyway, I don't see why you would have to be intelligent. You can try different kinds and expand your palette without being intelligent

You're complaining about them disliking popular stuff while also acknowledging that being popular often doesn't mean something is any good. There are absolutely pretentious hipster types that hump the leg of their favourite craft brewery because that's the closest thing to a personal identity they have, but the fact of the matter is that the scale and processes involved in macrobrewing generally produce inferior products to what you can get from microbrewing. By and large, macrobrews are more popular not because they're better (or even good), but because they've got brand recognition driving sales. There are some decent ones out there, and there are certainly plenty of terrible microbrews, but anyone who wants to enjoy some good beer should generally be looking to their local craft scene, not trying to find a great macrobrew. That's not hipstering, that's just the reality of the matter.

Nah, I've pretty much always just done my own thing without regard for trends, rather than actively opposing them. My sister, on the other hand, has been aggressively counter-culture for her entire life. She doesn't like identifying as a hipster because hipsters have become too mainstream (which is a fair assessment now, but she made that decision back when the concept was first emerging). And then there was me, who was like 5 years old and pointing out to her that avoiding things just because they're popular is still letting popular culture dictate what she does and doesn't like and that she's still not actually thinking independently. I've always been fun at parties.

That's not ironic, I just think it's silly to like or dislike something specifically because of its popularity or lack thereof

If you like something you should just admit it even if it's not popular and shouldn't pretend to like something even if it's the popular thing to do

And, more often than not, the people who dislike popular beer don't dislike it because it's popular, they dislike it because it sucks. Especially in the US, given what a laughing stock American macrobrewing is to the rest of the beer-drinking world (American microbrewing, however, has been doing quite well for itself and produced plenty of quality products).
