Especially people who link what youre selling online on a forum and tell others to scam you, without giving info such as where you live or what steps to scam you?

why ignore?

Is it because they have better things to do?

and isnt this a time they do handle harassment online?

Wouldnt repeatedly contacting people who say they dont want you to contact them constitute harassment?

I expressed interest in trolling someone online and would never send death threats or anything but want to know what crosses the line.

is repeatedly calling someone an idiot and saying theyre dumb as fuck nothing more than annoying?

and what do you mean someone very notable? Notable for continuous harassment?

Yes, that is pretty much a perfect example of the kind of case that's "nothing more than annoying" and is best dealt with by ignoring it. You (or whoever this is about) is not under any real threat of harm from being called an "idiot" or "dumb as fuck", it's just someone - probably a kid - with nothing better to do than keep repeating a few basic insults. Heck, someone with some basic programming knowledge could write a bot to keep calling you that; maybe it's not even a human doing it.

By "someone very notable" I was more thinking about who the victim is. If it's a really famous person, there's a bit more chance they can pull strings and make something happen.

Im not experiencing this kind of behavior, but I wanted to troll someone this way. However, three months ago I had committed counselling to scam this guy by linking what he was selling on reddit and saying would anyone like to buy from him? Ill let you keep the game if you want and also feel free to scam him. I just want the game off his hands and in a better one without any other info such as how to scam or where the guy lives, nor anyone actually attempting to scam him. So I thought that if I were to harass him solely by continuing to call him dumb, any police reports he files would get me into trouble.

<link redacted just in case>

Okay so, if you have existing orders telling you to leave someone alone (even if they're more like informal warnings), that might be a bit different. You'd still have to do something actually illegal before you could get in any meaningful trouble, but yeah, they might take a bit more interest in it.

Now with that being said - why do you want to do this, if you think it could get you in trouble? There's heaps of randoms or anons online you could fuck with, if that's what floats your goat. Seems like an obvious case of "just take the safe option", assuming you're not too keen on the outright "grow up" option (and let's face it, I'd be at least a slight hypocrite if I tried to insist you should do that).

i dont have any orders from the police, the guy was probably bluffing when he said he would tell the cops. I emailed a cop myself and the cop said I dont have any reports containing my name.

why would I want to do it? The guy was being dumb in general with things he said such as having the police follow my online accounts, when Im sure they have better things to do than do just that so I thought he would be fun to troll. I could troll other people but they dont seem fun to pick on.

But Im certainly going to leave everyone alone for now.

QFT. Lot's of shady drug dealers / thieves are showing up in my neighborhood from the next city over and the cops can't be bothered to investigate suspicious activity that I called in because it's not a crime despite overhearing one of the guys over the phone openly talking about a drug deal involving hard drugs(Heroin, coke, etc.) and a planned robbery. However they are always there in waiting to try and pull you over and try to extort money from you via a traffic violation by disputing with you and / or gaslighting you into thinking you didn't adequately stop at a stop sign, you didn't stop long enough, etc..

I didn't ask. Dispatch was being a pain in my ass and that already made it seem like they didn't want to be bothered so I wasn't going to press the issue. Especially since they already asked me to provide my name. Pretty sure the cops just dont want to risk possible exposure to Covid so they probably won't respond unless absolutely necessary.
