Square trademarked "The First Soldier" and "Ever Crisis" recently.

For those that don't know, Ever Crisis follows their naming convention for FF7 sequel titles:
AC - Advent Children
BC - Before Crisis
CC - Crisis Core
DC - Dirge of Cerberus
EC - Ever Crisis

So between EC and The First Soldier, unless one of them is the title of FF7R: part 2, we're looking at Square releasing at least 2 FF7-related games that might tie into the main plot the way KH did with all their side games.

The First Soldier is 100% FFVII Remake Part 2.

I'm assuming Ever Crisis will be part 3 or will be a spin off that tells a separate story of Zack in this new timeline.

Don't know why anyone would be upset about this. It all sounds good to me.

FF wiki suggests it's somewhat ambiguous, but it's probably referring to Sephiroth.

Well going by the old cannon their were 4 types G,S, Mako enhanced, and DEEPGROUND. G type were 40k style clones of Genisis (Angeal being his halfbrother would be a Cloud if you get me) S types Sephiroth clones, the Mako enhance predate them (and would be your Zacks) then DEEPGROUND were just basic Mako enhanced ones that later got a Jenova buff from Hojo...(like Zack post Niblehime)...so probably some no name who worked for Dr. Ghast

The whole reason Zack makes a good character and adds to the story/worldbuilding is because of the current story. Giving him a happy ending just totally undermines his character. Plus, the ending of Crisis Core was one of the most impactful scenes I've seen in a video game. The way the used the limit wheel to slowly fade people out and he clings on to Aerith, maaaan

Well the orginals still have to happen for Remake to happen that shits a sequel. Think of it like the crew reviving chrono dude still had to die for the team to stand a chance at killing Lavos....besides him just being a likeble functional adult made him better than 98% of the entirety of FFs cast. How things ended for him just made him tragic.

Just play the original no remake would be able to capture the level of weirdness and jank that is a huge part of what people love about it. Like we wouldnt get a weird technically bad translation that makes the charaters who they are or the weird popeye arms on cg matte paintings and shit if you get me.

Like as somebody that loves erry dumb part of its lore all the little easter eggs to all the differnt parts of the lore and the music were enough to keep my happy...only thing i didnt like was the darkside reskin we fought before the real final boss and even that was packed full of easter eggs

Nope, it's 2021 and they have yet to say how many parts it will be!

It would be an odd twist if in part its just zacks story in a new continuity from here on out instead of cloud.

My guess is that Zack was abducted by Hojo (or something else to take him out of the action) in between getting to Midgar and the beginning of FF7R. It'll be one of those "the past happened the way it did because you broke the chains in the future" type of things which is pretty common in Japanese games.

that's what was wildly speculated, but the devs actually came out shortly before part one released and said that they don't actually know how many parts it's going to be.

According to the translation, Kitase said the team has a "general idea of how the story will play out", but haven't yet decided how many parts there will be, and can't offer any confirmation about anything. "There's speculation that it will be 3 parts," Kitase says, "but we're just doing things one step at a time."

Nomura followed that up according to the tweet thread with: "If we divide the story into large parts, it'll take longer to make. If we divide it into more detailed smaller sections, then developing it will be faster. I hope to release the next one ASAP."

I was attacked by just about everyone I called them out for what was going to happen and they seemed to be happy with Square killing the franchise. The fact the game didn't sell as well compared to other games is a bad sign considering Square is very strict with sales as well. Then again Square like it's fans have a biased towards 7 so they might make exceptions for it.

Wait FF7R didn't sell well? I thought it was selling like hotcakes. And that's not sarcasm, I genuinely thought that it sold well given how much gamefaqs gushes about it.

It did. It sold over 5 million copies. That's twice as much as FF15, and is one of the top selling PS4 exclusives.
