not as much as it should. the authorities finally have the numbers to push the seditionists away from the capitol, but a lot of them are still there, almost two hours after curfew. and almost all the others were allowed to walk away. I'm sure many of them will be back.

That's a horrible mischaracterization of the protestors. They clearly genuinely believe that the election is a fraud and Trump actually won. They believe that if no one stands against it, then democracy is lost, the same as anyone who has basic common sense and accurate information believes the opposite. You could definitely say they are doing the wrong thing for the right reasons.

This is the result of the President and the Republican party being able to say things through channels that filter out anything the recipients do not want to hear. It's the result of social media being the absolute shithole that it is (deeply believe it's one of the biggest threats to American democracy in the modern world), where Russian and Chinese memetic infographics and fake quotes can reach tens of thousands of people in hours to days who will believe it as the truth while no actual information can ever see the light of day, and the movement of people away from reputable/mainstream (held to some standards, even if still very flawed) media as encouraged by Trump. It's from the curated creation of people who simply do not live in the same reality as we do. It is not, however, from a lack of moral integrity on the protestors' part. (Though it is from a lack of two brain cells to rub together, as the lies that Trump tells are ridiculously thin bullshit that doesn't even make sense like votes coming from non-registered voters by mail-in ballots, and they clearly hold the belief that conspiracies can be kept by thousands of people without leaking or morally objecting while one man with everything to gain can never lie.)

While the many factors you listed did contribute, there is still personal responsibility before taking big actions like storming a building. If you intend on doing something of that scale (or shooting into the senate chamber etc) then you make sure your actions are grounded in facts.

If somebody shoots into a crowd because someone ran up and told the person the crowd was all terrorists with suicide bombs, the shooter would still be responsible for manslaughter or something similar.

Do you really not understand the difference in the situation between a bunch of people storming the capital because they believe that Trump should be president just because he's Trump, and them believing he actually won the election?

If Trump refused to leave office and a bunch of government officials in conspiracy with him kept him there, and no one intervened, and he assumed a role as a dictator, do you not believe that democracy would die there unless he was removed from office, by force if necessary? Because that is objectively what would happen in that situation: either violent means would have to be introduced, or we would have a dictator in the White House. So what if you thought the truth was that Biden was the dictator and the figures in government keeping him there were conspirators?

If you mischaracterize the motivation of these people as "they would fight for Trump even if they knew he was lying about everything" rather than "they hold a deep regard for America but have no concept of what the reality of the situation is", how do you hope to fight against it? You can't literally just launch a military strike against American citizens and root out the terrorist training centers that are purely online. The only option is to attempt to reach people and bring them to their senses.
