Hell, Stanley's lines at the Dundee's felt like a real office worker delivering them. He came off as natural.

And then they just pigeon-holed everyone into the same shtick outside of making Jim and Pam pieces of shit in the later seasons.

I hated Jim. Dwight clearly has some mental issues. It is clear and he spends all day messing with this guy even messing with is stuff. And that what I really hate about him. Don't touch a man's desk. And that is why I hated Toby. He did nothing to stop this abuse. And at the same time I hated Scott for his abuse of Toby. It was just an abusive work place all around .

And Jim ade Andy go crazy and people were like Andy how can you do that. And no one was like Jim stole his shit I mean I hate Jim because we all know got damn Jims in real life. Normally good looking guys, who get away with all this horrible shit and no one ever calls them out. Got damn I hate Jim.

That was kinda the point. Not everyone was meant to have a drawn out character. They were just like the people you work with at an office. Some of them you develop bigger relationships with, others are just there. The vast majority of people on that show were just there...that was the goal lol.

Jim certainly isnt a saint but painting his acts as malicious bullying just screams insecurity on your part.

How do you jump from be thinking you shouldn't still people stuff and messing with people who are clearly mentally ill to me being insecure. Dwight being what he is makes Jim "jokes" even worse. He picks on the weakest person in the office, the odd ball, the person who stands out. Because he knows he can't do it anyone else. JIm is that bully who picks on the kid who eats paste because he knows no one would come to defend him. That makes his actions worse.

You think The Office is bad, try watching Frasier. Niles leaves his wife of four days and Daphne abandons her fiancee at the altar to get together. And this is after Niles spends literal years openly lusting after her while he's married to someone else.

The writers really dropped the ball on both of those arcs, but I feel there's an argument against Mel, since she was clearly a manipulative psychopath and basically Maris 2.0. The only redeeming moment, that the writers shouldn't have given her if they wanted her to be the villain, was that talk with Daphne. They should have just made her a straight weirdo who was looking for a controllable trophy husband. I tend to forgive Niles' lusting over Daphne because when it mattered most he put in the effort to make his marriage with Maris work. And at worst, they broke even since she cheated on him with her therapist. >_>

But the real victim, and the black spot on the series, was how they treated Donnie. Man was an absolute saint the whole way through, and it's especially egregious considering being left at the altar is one of the defining character moments for Frasier back in his Cheers days. Then you think the man finally recoups some of his dignity and finds happiness, only for that bizarre second-wife thing when we see him next. I honestly don't know what the hell the writers were thinking when they set all that up.

Yep, the writers were told not to write jokes (at least early on). The humor is situational and emerges from the plot and character interactions.

But idk what you mean that his faces were unrelated to the scene, Michael Scott as boss is the show. He's not in any scenes unrelated to himself and his "awkward faces" are a parody of incompetent middle managers. After the first season they do tone down how off-putting he is and give him more substance so they can play him off as sympathetic.

None of this is saying you have to like it but yeah.

1. Good Place
2. Parks and Rec
3. Brooklyn 99
4. Getting hit by a train and being ground into a fine paste so bad they need dental records to tell your sobbing family daddy isn't coming home
5. The Office, if nothing else is on tv

There are actually funny shows, white people. You don't need the office.
