I'm still pessimistic on the runoffs because we know some of the earliest turnout numbers showed an increase in turnout among older voters.

I'm about 70% on Loeffler and 90% on Perdue

I'll be very pleasantly surprised if Warnock squeezes it out and I'll be shocked if Ossoff wins

There's also a significant increase in black voters as well, plus I beleive many of those additional old voters are those who voted day of during the primary and did not want to go through that again. It's about a wash.

Normally I'd feel pretty confident in the Republicans given the polling is so close and polling tends to be biased toward Democrats, BUT Trafalgar had a recent poll showing Ossoff winning by 3 points. And the polls actually were pretty accurate in Georgia in November. And Loeffler is kind of an awful candidate. So I'm not very confident.

If someone talked politics to me IRL and expressed being a Trump supporter I would very swiftly put them in position of having to defend an argument they couldnt possibly depend.

Don't see how. Whether the person is a good person or not, it doesn't absolve that it is your flaw or issue in being unable to partake in non-controversial and polite light conversation while at a family reunion.

Hell, I wouldn't be able to even work at my last job if I couldn't do it. I was able to even disagree with sentiments politiclally beyond small talk and still have perfectly capable working conditions with others. It's not exactly hard to be a civil person and disagree with someone without being able to contain yourself.

I dunno if that's an anger issue or an anxiety issue or whatever to be unable to do so, but it is clearly a problem on the person unable to small talk in a normal function with someone who simply disagrees on your viewpoints politically.

I don't find being nice to people as something that is a difficult ask in most situations. Unless you are being insulting or rude to me, why would I be so to you, regardless of your core beliefs?

The part about people showing their true colors rings very true to me. Have you been to a family function? It doesn't stop at small talk. People will feel the need to make their objectionable opinions known and then what do you do? Sit in awkward silence? Speak up? It's a shitty situation no matter how you slice it.

But someone will say "it's pretty bullshit the stuff that Newsom is doing to us. The pandemic isn't even a big deal"

Corrik, the problem is that a lot of the right have been emboldened to be rude, vile people as a result of over half the country voting in favor of an openly hateful and racist president. And for a large percentage of that group, their politics have formed the basis of their identity. So they're not just politely engaging in small talk, but rather openly being hostile to the very concept of peace and kindness towards "others", whether political affiliation, or other minority status. I know you want to "both sides" this, but there is a very real difference between the level of violence and vitriol demonstrated over the last 6 years by the right compared to the left.

Some people will try and go further, and if you wanna walk away at that point or whatever... That's valid. That wasn't the discussion. Because they have a moral obligation to defend liberal takes that I call out regardless of the liberal take and what it means. Even when he admits he wouldn't do what the person says, he must continue to defend it and try to change it to a defensible position.

Not to my knowledge no. He isn't a coworker though. The guy who said imo terroristic things is one of them though. He even sent me a picture of a lightning bolt hitting the white house saying a storm was coming in a few days.
