Current personal stance on runoffs, with all the early voting numbers in: Warnock is a safe win, Ossof is still a total toss up.

We just have to see how much both Trump's lack of support and his absence from the ticket effects Tuesday.

I'm still pessimistic on the runoffs because we know some of the earliest turnout numbers showed an increase in turnout among older voters.

There's also a significant increase in black voters as well, plus I beleive many of those additional old voters are those who voted day of during the primary and did not want to go through that again. It's about a wash.

Normally I'd feel pretty confident in the Republicans given the polling is so close and polling tends to be biased toward Democrats, BUT Trafalgar had a recent poll showing Ossoff winning by 3 points. And the polls actually were pretty accurate in Georgia in November. And Loeffler is kind of an awful candidate. So I'm not very confident.

If someone talked politics to me IRL and expressed being a Trump supporter I would very swiftly put them in position of having to defend an argument they couldnt possibly depend.

And disown them eventually, of course.

Don't see how. Whether the person is a good person or not, it doesn't absolve that it is your flaw or issue in being unable to partake in non-controversial and polite light conversation while at a family reunion.

Hell, I wouldn't be able to even work at my last job if I couldn't do it. I was able to even disagree with sentiments politiclally beyond small talk and still have perfectly capable working conditions with others. It's not exactly hard to be a civil person and disagree with someone without being able to contain yourself.

I dunno if that's an anger issue or an anxiety issue or whatever to be unable to do so, but it is clearly a problem on the person unable to small talk in a normal function with someone who simply disagrees on your viewpoints politically.

Yes, you should be able to small talk with people who say such things. Small talk has absolutely zero to do with politics. If you are talking about politics, you are not small talking.

You are saying if someone once said something stupid you disagreed with politically that if you saw them on the street and they said omg I haven't seen you in forever how have you been. That you would ignore them or tell them to fuck off or some shit. Or even avoid going to that place because they might be there.

That's just weird tbqh and socially inept.

Many people have taken stances that are incredibly rude and offensive. Many people have aligned themselves behind others who have taken stances that are incredibly rude and offensive, and when given the opportunity to denounce those views for themselves, have elected not to denounce.

The part about people showing their true colors rings very true to me. There are people in my life I think significantly less of and while I'm not going to go out of my way to be confrontational about it, they have said and/or endorsed things that are disgusting things to say or endorse. People I was previously close to. People I'm related to.

Thinking less of someone has zero to do with being able to go places that these people could be at and having the capability of small talking if it happens.

I am pretty sure you can go to your brothers wedding and say you are doing fine thanks for asking to your obnoxious racist cousin if he happens to ask you that.

Have you been to a family function? It doesn't stop at small talk. People will feel the need to make their objectionable opinions known and then what do you do? Sit in awkward silence? Speak up? It's a shitty situation no matter how you slice it.

I don't sit down at the table and say "so what does everything think about the pandemic and the restrictions put in place by Newsom?".

But someone will say "it's pretty bullshit the stuff that Newsom is doing to us. The pandemic isn't even a big deal"

And yeah, I do not have it in me to hear that and not speak up, because that is a disgusting thing to say. And it's the result of this person buying into lies about the fake pandemic. And they go on to say how for all we know it was created by the chinese government and all that. People actually believe that garbage, and a lot more of them than I would have previously thought.

Corrik, the problem is that a lot of the right have been emboldened to be rude, vile people as a result of over half the country voting in favor of an openly hateful and racist president. And for a large percentage of that group, their politics have formed the basis of their identity. So they're not just politely engaging in small talk, but rather openly being hostile to the very concept of peace and kindness towards "others", whether political affiliation, or other minority status. I know you want to "both sides" this, but there is a very real difference between the level of violence and vitriol demonstrated over the last 6 years by the right compared to the left.

You really seem to be clinging to one teeny tiny part of that note and your only takeaway seems to be "man this guy is such a dweeb because he wont go to family reunions anymore".

But it isn't even about that, that's just a small part of what was said to make a point.

I'm going to continue to go to family functions myself. But there are people I will work very hard not to talk to now and that is the point being made.

Nobody said being able to do more than small talk. You are changing what was being discussed now. And, I have been to plenty of functions where people could just small talk. Some people will try and go further, and if you wanna walk away at that point or whatever... That's valid. That wasn't the discussion. It was whether you could go somewhere someone you disagree with politically could be at and engage in small talk with them. Or if they are some vile monster you can't contain yourself around so you can't be in their presence. That was the discussion.

Also, small talk is talking about the weather or how your kids are doing or so on. Not talking about lockdowns, politics, religion, etc. Wtf lol.

No. You are misunderstanding the conversation apparently.

He is saying that he cannot go to a family reunion and small talk with someone that he knows supported Trump.

Stop trying to change the entire conversation.

There is something wrong with him regarding that inability on his part.

That's what we are discussing. That's what I am saying makes it a him problem. That's what I am saying a normal person should be able to do and not being able to do that is an issue on them.

There is no hang up on words and semantics. It is discussing what he said and what it means. You are just trying to change it to defend him cuz I assume "Team Blue" because you yourself wouldn't even do something like that because it's just socially inept and a dumb stance. You can just admit he is the problem in that part. You don't have to defend everyone who is on the side of the Democrats against the vile moderate conservative.

Because they have a moral obligation to defend liberal takes that I call out regardless of the liberal take and what it means. Even when he admits he wouldn't do what the person says, he must continue to defend it and try to change it to a defensible position.

It's basically what Defund the Police was. You all know what it meant initially. But when conservatives attacked it, you had to defend your team so you tried to warp what it meant. It has NEVER always meant to reallocate funds. You all knew that. This argument is basically not any different. I am attacking his stance. Forceful is defending the stance because I attacked it. Not because he actually agrees with it. That is apparent by what he has said in the argument. So, he upon realizing that has to try and change the argument to a defensible position... When he knows I am not arguing against that changed position in any way.

Nothing new really. Stop defending your political sides as if they are on your team!

There are two emerging theories on who vandalised Pelosi's house.

And you guessed it!

1. Republican nut job that was trying a false flag / sarcastic operation here or seriously was convinced Pelosi has stopped the $2000 checks.

Or

2. Left extremist. That the 2k is crossed out not because people were denied it but because 2k is nothing and shouldn't be accepted either. That rent should be cancelled forever as people shouldn't have to pay to simply live. Also, that you should be allowed to have everything to exist by right, ubi/healthcare/place to live.

I am mostly going with 1 on this one. The only reason I am not going 100% on 1 is that the writing seems very well written and the artsy people are generally on the left.

I'll put it at 90/10 option 1.

Not to my knowledge no. He isn't a coworker though. The guy who said imo terroristic things is one of them though. He even sent me a picture of a lightning bolt hitting the white house saying a storm was coming in a few days.

I asked him what he is gonna do if he ends up being part of a large crowd of KKK or Neo-nazis or something. He said, I am not apart of them. They don't bother me. At least they are there for the right reasons though.
