Some people are just more sensitive to taste and texture so it's not their fault if they refuse to eat fruits or vegetables or certain meats or refuse to eat ethnic food or foods with sauces.

it's a legit medical condition
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avoidant/restrictive_food_intake_disorder

So please be more mindful before making fun of someone who can't stand mint chocolate chip ice cream, cilantro , guacamole, tomatoes, seafood, food, mushrooms, onions.

Can you still eat stuff like pizza and spaghetti?

I have a sensitive stomach and it makes me a very picky eater, but I don't mind getting made fun of or people getting irritated by it. It is what it is. It probably is irritating when I decline 2-3 restaurants because everything looks like a uncomfortable evening for me. Plus, I want to make fun of vegans, so I gotta give this one to people.

My daughter has this, it's annoying. She eats individual ingredients from my dinner meal prep, so I end up having to go back to store.

She went from hating strawberries, to liking strawberries, to hating strawberries. To only eating a certain variety and type of strawberry from one brand.

She also can only eat bread from one company and only one type of it and ONLY if they make it right.

These picky eaters, it's in there heads.

I've tricked her before switching items on her plate to see if she had the same "retching" puke like reaction.

If she doesn't know it's switched she doesn't care or know.

Weirdly I made her like mayonnaise this way. She went from gagging/wanting to vomit looking at mayonnaise. To now requesting it, after I tricked her into eating it.

She use to have a issue with being way to thin. But over years I've figured out what she will/won't eat. So she eats good now.

Basically she can only eat mild flavors and smooth flavors.

i have a sensory condition, so yeah eating for me isn't very fun, and i was an extremely picky eater as a child. i definitely still am compared to the average person, there are just some textures and smells that will just make me reflexively gag even with a blind test. but it's at least gotten better.

I used to work with a really nice older lady who ordered an onion pizza for the department once because apparently everyone liked it. I didn't want to be rude so I forced a slice down

It was maybe the most disgusting thing I've ever eaten. I could barely stop myself from gagging with every bite, I had to drown every bite down with a soda immediately. I was never hungry at work again after that.

Ive tried to be less picky as I get older, but some things are still just hard for me to eat. If I get tomatoes in a salad, I can force it down, but its very slow because I recoil from the taste. I also sort of have an issue where I hate when something goes from soft to crunchy.

The worst one I ever heard was from my brother. I dont like eggs, so he tried to get me with "how do you not like eggs but like cake?" I was so stunned that I couldn't answer that.

But I'm one of those people who doesn't like tomatoes but like pasta/pizza sauce. And it's simple, sauce doesn't taste like straight tomatoes. It doesn't have the same taste or texture, and has a ton of other ingredients added so you can't even taste the tomato. Would you smash some tomatoes and pour the remains over your pasta and say it's exactly like pasta sauce? No, because that would be awful.

I like to pick out ingredients if I can. Like a tomato slice. It ruins a sandwich for me and I don't want to eat it together. I will eat it seperately, I used to not eat it. But I was often in situations where I just couldn't afford to be picky so I now will eat almost anything. Sometimes I will regret this however as I also have a sensitive stomach. I try to avoid a food once I know it will punish me.

Milk is an example of something that may punish me. Whole milk for sure but it's a gamble with milk products or milk substitutes. I know I can't eat ice cream that was made with milk for example.

Seafood is an example of something I will not touch at all because I keep hearing the voices when I'm near fish. They speak to me and tell me secrets you know.

Yeah, you can only get away with that until you're too old to order off a kids menu.

Bonus points if someone orders something they claim to like only to not like it. My sister did that once with mac and cheese. I disgutedly noted it was probably because she was served something not made out of a box with real cheese.

I'm definitely a picky eater. Everyone that knows me, knows this and it doesn't bother them. I feel like it's mostly people online that are incredibly judgemental about it.

I've definitely gotten better as I get older, but things like sour cream or mayonnaise still make me gag and dry heave.

Both condiments. Condiments are a different thing entirely. Being a picky eater means a limited scope of actual meats and veggies and dishes you'll eat.

I hate most condiments, but will eat mushrooms and onions like candy.

Oh no, those were just examples of things I have the strongest aversion to. I also don't eat most seafood, no pasta dishes that don't use tomato sauce, no to most vegetables, no to guacamole, no to most Asian food (I don't know how else to put that). If I get pizza, I prefer no toppings, but I'll tolerate pepperoni and/or sausage/chicken. Anything else and I'm picking it off. There's more, but I think you get the idea lol.

I'm sort of picky. I was a lot more picky as a kid and constantly got shit for it. I've always tried not to be a fuss or cause problems, but I still got hounded all the time. I'd get made fun of in front of my whole family at Thanksgiving and Christmas. Basically it was bullying. It's not my fault I don't like certain things. I can't change my taste buds. People would say "well try it again. You'll like it this time" and I would and the result would always be the same.

Yeah. For me it's the texture. There's not a whole lot of potato in most fries. I can't even eat those big jojo fries or whatever they're called. I can still eat small bits of potato in soup and stuff, but getting a lot of potato in my mouth is just yuck to me.
