Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar has criticised other lawmakers, a group that includes fellow Squad member Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for being vaccinated before frontline workers, the elderly, and other high-risk groups. Ms Omar, who lost her father due to coronavirus complications this summer, tweeted on Sunday: Its now clear that we dont have enough vaccines for everyone and there is a shortage of supply, we have to prioritize those who need it most. Thats why its disturbing to see members be first to get the vaccine while most frontline workers, elderly and infirm in our districts, wait. Ms Ocasio-Cortez was also criticised by Republican senator Rand Paul on Twitter for taking the vaccine. She shot back: Gee, maybe if the GOP hadnt spent so much time undermining public faith in science, masks, and Covid itself, I wouldnt have to weigh the potential misinformation consequences of what would happen if leaders urged people to take a new vaccine that we werent taking ourselves!"

Our job is to make sure the vaccine isnt politicised the way masks were politicised. If you actually listened to your constituents, youd hear a LOT about viral claims about reproductive health. People have questions. Leaders should show we wont ask others to do something we wouldnt do ourselves, Ms Ocasio-Cortez said in a second tweet. Ms Ocasio-Cortez, who broadcast her vaccination live on Instagram, said that the vaccine was made available to members of Congress and that they were urged to take it as a continuity of governance plan and described it as a national security measure.

Conspiracy theories can't be squashed, they only get replaced by other conspiracy theories. The people against vaccines won't change their minds over this they'll just come up with a new excuse like "it wasn't really the vaccine." All this did was redirect a vaccine from a less fortunate person.

You do realize that there are many different groups of people that are "anti-vax."

Communities of color distrust the government and wary of vaccines for different reasons than other communities. Health experts advocate for influential people to receive the vaccine publicly to help encourage the members of these communities to see there is no harm in getting it.

It's still responsible to set an example for the floaters/centrists who aren't 100% objecting to a vaccine though. These people have been affected by COVID too either directly or indirectly from an infected friend, coworker, etc so it's not out of the question to get it. Yes she basically cut in line, but at this stage of the pandemic after more than a quarter million deaths can we really be upset by this action for the greater good? (the greater good)

btw we already know the hardcore conspiracy crowd aren't getting vaccinated but no one gives a flying fuck about them anyway.
