"I'll go with the BMW 3 Series."

"Okay," she says as she types that in. "When will they be arriving? Your family, I mean."

You check the clock.

"A couple of hours," you say. "I'll make sure to bring my father or grandfather by, they'll be the primary drivers."

"Okay," she says. "I'll put a reservation on one of the BMW's, and when your father gets here, he can handle part of the paperwork."

"Thank you," you say.

"We will need a down payment for the reservation, though," she says.

"I can take care of that then," you say, offering your credit card.

"Alright," she says as she takes it and scans it.

She types on her computer then hands your card back. She also has you give a digital signature, which is tricky but you manage.

"Thank you," she says.

"Thank you," you say back.

You go back out and to the Charger but your phone rings.

"Hello," you say as you answer.

"Hey," Raven says, "I've been talking with the Cascade Dining Room for our group. Because it's nine of us, they're offering a nice back room for our dinner."

"Oh, that sounds very good," you say.

"Yeah but if we're going to reserve it, that means a down payment," she continues. "And well, I don't exactly have cash on me, so..."

"Right, right. Hmm..."

Well you'd be paying that with a credit card like you did the car rental, but obviously you'd have to drive back up and present your card. But you only have so much time before your family arrives...

"Alright, I'll drive back to meet you," you say. "There's still time before my family arrives."

You drive as quickly as you can back to Mt. Hood, but of course you have to take it slow on the winding road. You find the spot next to Shadowfax is still open and you pull in. You hurry inside the Timberline Lodge and find your way around to the Cascade Dining Room in the main hall.

"I'm here," you say as you find Raven.

"Here he is," she tells the manager of the restaurant.

You hand over your credit card, the manager puts the card in the machine to get the payment. He hands it back to you and you thank him.

"Alright, so dinner set for six?" Raven asks.

"Family arrives four to five," you say, "they'll get into their rooms... How about dinner closer to seven?"

"Alright," the manager says. "We'll expect you at seven."

"Where's your mother?" you ask Raven as you two exit to the hall.

"She's been talking with the people in charge of the Raven's Nest," Raven says. "They'll arrange some things for tomorrow for your birthday party."

"Okay," you say. "See you in a little while."

You give Raven another kiss then return to the Charger. You go all the way back to the airport and arrive at 4:10. You look around, see no plane, and wait a bit longer.

At 4:37, you finally spot the jet coming in and watch it land. The door opens and the stairs fold out, and you see your sisters walk out first, followed by your parents. You whistle and wave and they spot you. They excitedly wave back, and you wait for them as they and your grandparents make the walk over.

"Hopefully you weren't waiting long," Father says.

"No, not at all," you say. "We've been running around to get things ready for tonight and tomorrow."

"Oh, okay," he chuckles.

"So is that where Raven and her mother are?" your mother asks.

"Yes, they're back at the hotel. We need to go pick up your rental car, it's only down the way. So I'll drive Father over and we'll both come back and pick everyone up."

You and Father get in the Charger, you drive down to the Enterprise rental and meet the same woman at the front desk as before, and she hands your father the keys to a BMW 3 Series. You go and find the BWM in a lovely shade of blue and Father hops in the driver seat. Then you lead the way back to the airport and luggage is loaded up into the BMW.

Mother and your grandparents ride with Father, your sisters join you. After arguing over who gets to sit up front and then coming to the obvious solution of having them ride in the back, you lead the way to the hotel, which includes another trip along the winding path.

"You two will be rooming with Raven, if that's alright," you say to your sisters. "It's mostly to save a little money."

"Yes, that'll be so much fun!" Rebecca says.

"We can finally talk about you behind your back with her!" Roselind says.

"No, I'll be next door," you say. "Our rooms will be attached."

They both pout and grumble hearing this.

"Do we at least have time for a nap before dinner?" Roselind asks. "Jet lag and a massive time zone change is really tiring."

"Dinner's at seven," you say as you think. "Five o'clock now..."

"Yes, you have time to nap."

"Thank you," Rebecca says.

"But I'll be sure to wake you up sometime around 6:30 so you have time to be ready for dinner," you say. "You won't have to worry too much about travel, the restaurant is connected to the hotel and barely takes a few minutes to get to."

"Oh, well that's good," Roselind says.

You arrive back at the Timberline Lodge, park next to Shadowfax, and Father parks next to you. Luggage is brought into the hotel and you give your parents and grandparents the keys to rooms 2C and 2D. They sort out which room is for each of them while you help your sisters take their things to 2N.

"Raven," you say before knocking. "Are you in there?"

"Yes, hold on," she says.

After a moment, the door opens and Raven lets you three in. Raven has her things on the bed by the door that connects 2M and 2N, so your sisters take the other. They rock-paper-scissors and Rebecca wins, so she takes the left side, closest to the door.

"Okay," Rebecca says as she reclines on the bed. "See you after our nap."

"Oh," Raven says as Roselind climbs in beside Rebecca. "Okay, see you later...?"

You open the door that connects the rooms and Raven goes with you to 2M to talk without disturbing your sisters.

"So, with the dinner tonight," Raven says, "the restaurant was offering to start making a meal before we arrived, so that it could be ready to serve when we get there."

"Oh, that's nice of them," you say. "Any extra cost?"

"Not since you're reserving the back room," she says.

"Well alright then," you say. "Did you order for us or is hat for me to decide?"

"Well you are the birthday boy," she says. "I was going to tell them as soon as you made a decision, but I checked the menu for what I think you would like. There's flat iron steak, ribeye steak, or Pacific King Salmon."

"Those do sound good," you say. "I myself will have..."

"A ribeye steak."

"Okay," she says. "Oh, what about your sisters?"

"Oh, true, we should've asked them, too..."

You look back into 2N but the twins are already fast asleep.

"Well, I did see the menu has quail," Raven says. "Do they like quail?"

"They're not against it," you say. "And they're small birds so that shouldn't be too much for either of them."

"I'll go ask your parents and grandparents their orders," Raven says.

"Alright," you say, "see you in a few minutes."

Raven goes out from your room, and you quickly...

You set out fresh clothes, grab your towel and toiletries and get into the bathroom. It's a very nice bathroom, actually, and the shower has very nice tiling and faucets. You shampoo and scrub and rinse, then scrub a bit more to make sure you're squeaky clean.

You finish with the water, wrap on the towel and go back to the main room. You dry off and brush your hair while sitting in your underwear. You get the tangles out and start putting on your pants but there's a knock at your door.

"Hold on," you say as you hurry over.

You open the door and see it's Arella!

"Oh, I'm sorry!" you say as you turn away and finish zipping your pants up.

"N-No, I should've said who I was first," Arella says. "Um, were you expecting Raven?"

"Yes, but not for what you might be thinking," you say as you grab your shirt.

"I wasn't thinking anything," Arella says rather quickly.

You take a seat to put on your socks.

"But I was coming here to ask about the dress code for the dinner tonight," Arella says. "I would think tomorrow and the birthday party is more formal than tonight, yes?"

"Yes, that is a good point," you say. "Tonight will be semi-formal. Hmm, I think Raven's T-shirt dress would be nice for this, and your..."

"Oh," Arella says. "That does sound like a nice look."

"Oh, sorry," you say. "I'm overstepping suggesting outfits..."

"No, no, it's fine," Arella says. "Especially when you have good taste. I do think the black wrap would be best."

"Okay," you say. "Thank you for saying I have good taste."

"Not at all," she says. "You seem to know what Raven looks good in, because she looks very nice in these normal clothes."

You smile just a little nervously. This is the first time a girlfriend's mother has complimented you about their own daughter.

Another knock on the door and this time you check through the peep hole to see. It's Raven after all and you open the door.

"Okay, your dad is having the flat steak," Raven starts listing as she walks in, "your mother will also have the quail, and your grandparents- Oh, mom, what're you doing in here?"

"I was just checking on the dress code," Arella says.

"It'll be semi-formal," you say. "I was thinking that T-shirt dress of yours, the blue one."

"Oh," Raven says. "Yes, that would be good for tonight."

"Well, I should go and freshen up before dinner," Arella says. "I'll see you two in a little bit."

Arella exits and you go to your luggage to look at your semi-formal shirts. You decide to go with black, it'll be a very sleek semi-formal look with your black jeans.

"Alright," Raven says. "I'm going to take a shower, in my room."

"Of course," you say. "And make sure to wake my sisters at about six so they have time to do all of that, too."

"Of course," she says. "See you in a little bit."

You see the room has an ironing board and iron so you use that to quickly iron out the wrinkles in the shirt. The iron works rather nicely, and you get through ironing the shirt smoothly enough. You make sure to carefully set the shirt out so it won't end up wrinkled all over again.

[cut to Raven]

Raven shampoos and scrubs, rinses off then makes sure to scrub again to be sure she's squeaky clean for the dinner. She's already met Rorek's family but she wants to make sure she doesn't smell bad or look grimey anywhere. Thinking about that, she takes an extra minute to scrub her face and behind her ears.

Raven finishes with the shower, turning the water off and grabbing her towel. But then she remembers she left her things on her bed. She opens the door and walks out to the main room and walks past Rorek's sisters still snoozing on the bed.

Raven decides to dress in the bathroom. Asleep or not, it'd be awkward to be dressing with Rorek's sisters in the room.

Raven is careful with putting the T-shirt dress on now, there's still some time before the dinner and she doesn't want to make a mess of the dress, even if it's just wrinkling it a little. She makes sure there's no lint or fuzz before she goes back to the main room.

Raven looks at the clock and sees it's just after six. She goes over to Rorek's sisters and gives them some nudges on their shoulders.

"Roselind," Raven says softly. "Rebecca. Time to get up."

The sisters grumble and stir from their naps. They yawn at the same time as they sit up at the same time. They both see the other's hair is a mess and giggle.

"There should be plenty of time to freshen up," Raven says.

"Right," the two say as they get up.

The sisters play a round of rock-paper-scissors to decide who goes in first.

"Since when have you two done this?" she asks them.

"Well..." they say as they look at each other.

"We wouldn't have to if someone could make up her mind some times," one sister says.

"Yes, we could," the other says. "But someone is always so eager to do something, it's hard to keep up."

They pout at each other and Raven regrets asking.

"Well, at least you decided on a way to make decisions," she says. "So, while, um... Wait, who is who...?"

"You can't tell?" they both say while pouting; they tilt their heads in opposite directions so as not to match and also not to bonk heads.

"Well, to be fair," Raven says, "I was kinda just letting Rorek talk to you and going off of that. He is your brother, so he would know the difference."

The twins still pout.

"Well, while I shower," the twin on the left says, "do pick out our outfits for tonight."

"Of course," the twin on the right says.

One twin goes to the bathroom with towel and toiletries while the other looks through outfits. She goes with two matching outfits. Both have pleated skirts and a preppy type button-up shirt with short, cuffed sleeves. But where one is a black skirt and shirt with white buttons, cuffs and collar, the other is white with black buttons, cuffs and collar. So again, matching but not the same.

"So I hope you are okay with us ordering dinner ahead of time," Raven says. "We went with quail for the two of you."

"Oh, yes, that'll be fine," the twin says. "It'll be something nice and light. Our stomachs are still going to be on British time while we're here so it'll be more a late dinner than an early breakfast."

When one twin finishes her shower, the other carefully takes clean clothes to her for her to dress inside the bathroom, just as Raven did. This twin walks out in the white outfit and lets her sister have the bathroom to take her own shower.

"So..." Raven says to this twin. "How has everyone been since Rorek and I visited?"

"It's been a good summer," the twin says. "After you and Rorek basically got engaged, leaving everyone else without a prize, there were some interesting developments. Cousin Ross approached Rhiannon, and they're dating now."

"Oh? That's great! Rhiannon Reynolds, the... Binding magic expert. That's... not why he likes her, is it?"

The twin cracks up laughing, and all she can manage is to shake her head, "no."

"That is funny, though," she says. "Hey, Rose! You- I mean... Oh, shoot, I was hoping you'd still be in the dark about who was who."

Raven can even hear Roselind go, "Aww..." from in the bathroom, so she must've heard this, too.

After Roselind finishes her shower, Rebecca brings her the clean clothes to return the favor. Roselind is in the black outfit and stands with her sister to do a check of each other. They brush out each other's hair, and then look at each other curiously.

"Should we go with ponytail?" Roselind asks.

"Maybe a braided tail?" Rebecca adds. "Or just leave it down?"

"Raven, which do you think would work?" Roselind asks.

"Just leave it down, it looks nice like that," Raven says.

"Really?" they say as they look at each other.

"Here, I'll part mine on the right," Roselind says.

"And I'll part mine on the left," Rebecca says.

They use the combs and brush their hair to be parted just as they described. Roselind in black has a part on her right side, Rebecca in white has a part on her left side, and they stand together so that the parts are in the middle.

"And we're ready!" they say with matching smiles.

[back to Rorek]

There's a knock on the door connecting your room to the girls' room.

"Rorek," Raven says. "Are you dressed?"

"Yes," you say as you finish buttoning your shirt. "Are you all dressed?"

"Yes," Raven says. "We'll meet you in the hallway."

"Alright," you say as you finish lacing up your dress shoes.

You do a last check in the mirror, make sure your hair isn't bunched up on your shoulders, and go to the hall. Raven is in her t-shirt dress as suggested, and your sisters are dressed in a way that's mirrored and complimentary as usual. You four head for the stairs, which of course leads you past where the rest of the family's rooms are, so that you all regroup before heading down.

"I've been wondering," Raven asks you. "How do you tell the difference between your sisters?"

"Oh, well," you say, "part of it is a subtle difference in their voices."

"Right, that's going to be easy to figure out," Raven says with some sarcasm.

"The only other thing is their noses," you continue. "Rebecca's nose is slightly pointier."

"Hmm, okay," Raven nods. "Okay, one last thing before we have dinner with everyone. Do you want your birthday cake tonight or tomorrow?"

"Oh that can be for tomorrow," you say, "for the full birthday party."

"Okay," Raven says. "We can skip cake for tonight."

Your group of nine arrives at the Cascade Dining Room, go to the special reserved seating in the back and you see it is a lovely long table. You expect your father to sit at the head, but he offers you the seat.

"Are you sure?" you ask.

"Of course," he says. "It's your birthday, you're a man now, you'll be the head of your own table soon enough."

"Well, alright then," you say with a nod. "Thank you."

You take your seat, with Raven on your right, your sisters next to her and Arella at the end. Your parents and grandparents all sit across from them on your left side.

"What would everyone like to drink?" a waitress asks as she walks up.

"I'll have a lemonade," you say. "In fact, perhaps just a pitcher for the table?"

"Yes, we can do that," she says. "Anything else?"

"I'll try the Hogsback Oatmeal Stout," your father says. "Just the 16 ounce."

"Same here," Grandfather Sixth says.

"I'll have a glass of your Pacific Rim white wine," your mother says.

"Anyone else?" the waitress asks.

No one responds, so the waitress just puts down that everyone else will need glasses for the lemonade.

"Alright, I'll be back with all of those shortly," the waitress says. "And I believe you all ordered ahead, so those will be out shortly, as well."

"Thank you," you say.

The waitress hurries back to the kitchen and your family finally has time to sit and talk.
