"Not right now," you say. "I'm going to check in with my parents to know if we can have dinner."

"Alright," Raven says. "I might pass you in the hall, then, cuz I'm on my way back."

"Okay," you say. "See you soon."

You hang up, lead Robin, Cyborg and Red Star inside and let them know which way to the pool before turning around and heading for the Raven's Nest. Sadly, you don't encounter Raven before then, so you'll have to wait to see her in her swimsuit again later.

The doors to the Raven's Nest are closed so you knock. Your mother answers but keeps the door slightly cracked.

"Rory, what're you doing here?" she asks.

"I just wanted to check on how things are going," you say, "for my birthday dinner. Are we ready yet?"

"Almost," she says. "But we want the decorations to be a surprise for you."

"Oh, that's not that big a deal, is it?" you say. "Is it really that special?"

"Well I can't say because that'd give something away," she says.

"Alright, fine," you say. "I'll go join the others at the pool. Just try and be fast before everyone gets pruny."

You head back, go to your room, and change into swim trunks. From there, you go back to the pool and find everyone you know is there, and no one else. Those other guests you heard must've moved on.

"There he is!" Beast Boy says. "The birthday boy's finally joined the party!"

"Thank you, Beast Boy," you say. "And hello, everyone."

You walk to the pool and jump in for a nice splash. Everyone has a good laugh as you resurface, and you float over to where Raven is with Jinx.

"My family is oddly keeping the hall shut up for the moment," you say. "They seem to want to keep it a surprise for me."

"And that's odd how?" Raven asks.

"Well, maybe it isn't," you say. "I just didn't think the decorations were a big deal. It's being with family and friends and having fun that matters."

"Very true," Raven says as she floats over to you.

Raven wraps her arms around you, gives you a kiss on the cheek, then floats around you a little more.

"Come back here," you smirk as you follow after.

"What?" Raven giggles as you wrap your arms around her.

"I was wondering," you say quietly. "I know you didn't get me any gifts, and I'm not holding that against you, but-"

"You want some quality alone time, huh?" Raven smirks.

"Well..." you smirk back.

"I guess we could," Raven says. "Just, y'know, late at night. Like, late, late. I don't know how late, but pretty late."

"True," you say. "How about we try for..."

"10 PM? Not too late, hopefully things will wind down so we can just slip away to my room."

"That's fine by me," Raven smiles. "But since we're making your birthday special, you better make tonight special."

"Oh, I will certainly show my full appreciation," you smirk.

Raven tosses her head back as she laughs, and the two of you spin in the water together. Everyone splashes around, Beast Boy as a seal again, and you notice your sisters glomping around on Jinx, Argent and Starfire.

"Alright, everyone," your mother says as she shows up at the doorway. "We're ready!"

"Finally!" you say.

Everyone gets out of the pool, Beast Boy changing to a dog to shake dry. Starfire shakes dry, too, but isn't even in a different outfit. She's still wearing her usual purple boots and things, but she just lets the water drip away.

"Star, maybe you should use a towel," Robin says as he picks up his cape from a pool chair.

Everyone goes inside, you letting the boys borrow towels while the ladies change in the other room. The boys then give you the room to change into your nicest semi-formal slacks and shoes with a nice, simple button-up with long sleeves. You then join everyone else, and Raven is indeed wearing her black t-shirt dress and Louis Vuittons.

"Very nice," Cyborg says as he and Beast Boy give thumbs up.

"Why thank you," you say, pretending the compliments are for you. "But no, in all seriousness and honesty, this is why Raven was a hit at the Null family home."

"Really?" Raven asks. "Who said?"

"Mostly myself, but I'd imagine the others felt the same," you say. "Now, to the Raven's Nest!"

"To the Raven's Nest!" Raven repeats with a big smile.

The two of you walk hand-in-hand and lead the way. Your mother opens the door, steps aside, and you marvel as you walk in and see the shining banner that reads, "Congratulates On Your Engagement!"

"Wow...!" Raven says for the both of you. "This is amazing! Mrs. Null, or, uh, Rachel? Miss Rachel, thank you so much."

"This was... definitely worth waiting for, actually," you say to your mother.

"Didn't I tell you?" she smiles back.

"Speech!" Sixth says. "Speech!"

The others echo, "Speech! Speech!"

"No, no!" you say back with a wave of your hand and a tug of your scarf. "I know this has suddenly become a celebration of our engagement, but there's no need for a speech on my birthday. I have the love of my life, the love of my family, and the great appreciation of my friends, and we're all here together for a good time. Let us simply eat, drink and be merry, shall we?"

After everyone else applauds, Raven says, "That was actually a really good speech."

"Well, thank you," you say. "Who's sitting where?"

Everyone goes to the tables, your father still at the head, but you as the guest of honor, in the middle. You of course have Raven on your right, Arella on her right. Making sure to slip right into your left is...

Jinx pouts as she reluctantly sits to Argent's left. Argent settles in, gives you a big smile as she gets a plate, and you smile back out of courtesy.

You notice that as the Titans sit on the other side of the table, directly opposite of you, you're getting frowning stares from Robin, Cyborg, Beast Boy and even Red Star.

"What? you ask.

"Nothing," they all say with pouting faces.

Raven leans over to whisper, "I think they're jealous."

"Oh, okay," you say with a knowing nod. "Well, lads, perhaps you should be."

"Huh?" they and Raven say.

"Because I'm the one taking the most wonderful young woman off the market," you say as you take Raven's hand.

You bring her hand up and give it a kiss, and Raven smiles.

"Isn't that sweet?" Cyborg teases.

Everyone shares a laugh, and then everyone has a plate and glass, with pitchers of cola available. Everyone fills their glasses, and you all toast to the engagement over your birthday. You all get slices of pizza, keeping the non-meat pizza closest for Beast Boy's sake, and as you eat, you talk about...

"Well, obviously, all that's left is riding down from here to California," you say. "We'll drop the rental off at the Hertz location in Redding, finish on Shadowfax, and be back before the Summer's over."

"So then Raven's mom isn't going to be visiting when you guys arrive?" Robin asks.

"Well, I may have to go back to Azarath soon," Arella says, "but it is very easy to make a return trip."

"That's true," Cyborg chuckles.

"Wait, how so? your mother asks.

"Well, that's a bit of a long story," you say. "But speaking of, we'll be seeing you all off soon, won't we?"

"Yes, we do need to be getting back," your father says. "We can pack up tonight, drive the rental back, and get on our plane before lunch."

"That seems a bit fast," Roselind says.

"Yeah," Rebecca says. "Couldn't we fly down to California to visit?"

"Well, if Rory and Raven are going to head there as a road trip," Sixth says, "it won't be like they're arriving in a day. We'll visit California for the holidays."

"Yes, exactly," you say.

"Let's just work on making tonight a lot of fun, then," Raven says.

"Here, here," you say.

"Here, here!" everyone else echoes as you have another quick toast.

"That said," Raven says. "The girls and I had an idea to have a little party game. Perhaps charades since that doesn't need too much paper or anything."

"Yes, that sounds fine," you say. "What teams would we do?"

"Your team versus my team," she says.

"Oh? Well, that's very interesting," you say. "Hmm... I wonder who I will pick first..."

Raven starts to speak up but stops.

"Did you want to pick first?" you ask.

"Well..." she says. "I mean, it is your birthday, though, so..."

"In that case," you say as you look at the table.

Raven looks surprised, and then both Jinx and Argent snicker.

"What?" you say.

"Raven really thought you were going to let her choose first," Jinx smirks. "Out of being a gentleman."

"But it's okay that you're going first," Raven says. "It's your birthday."

"Thank you," you say. "Wait. Oh, of course. You wanted to go first to get one of the twins, didn't you? Get an advantage?"

"Well, I guess it wouldn't work to lie," Raven says, to which you all share a chuckle.

"Well, to be fair, I'd probably do the same move," you say. "Hmm..."

"Well, I suppose it's only fair to then let each team have one of the twins."

"Alright," Raven says. "Which one do you take?"

"Hold on, we're not playing just yet," you say. "Let's finish eating."

You eat up a slice of each pizza, from the pepperoni to the bacon to the veggie and are full. Everyone else eats their fill, until there's only a few slices left at all.

"Alright," you say. "Now we can begin."

You and Raven get up and bring your chairs to sit as captains a ways away from the tables.

"Oh, we should also decide how to play this," you say while Raven takes a seat.

"What do you mean?" she asks. "It's charades."

"Yes, but I mean the rules of guessing," you explain. "Having large teams is different from having a small group. So let's make it..."

"Right," Raven says. "If one team ends up stronger than the other, they could just snatch up the points no matter which team is up."

"Right," you say back. "And we wouldn't want this to be one-sided like that."

"No, not at all," Raven says.

The two of you stare down, and you smirk as you feel the competitive nature.

"Well, if we're going to split the twins," you say, "I'll choose first and take... Roselind."

Roselind happily brings her chair over to sit with you, and Rebecca automatically goes to Raven's side.

"Raven, you go ahead and choose next," you say.

"Alright," Raven says. "Robin."

Robin joins Raven and Rebecca, and now you choose again.

"Cyborg," you say.

Cyborg joins you and Roselind as Raven says, "Beast Boy."

"Grandfather Sixth," you say.

"Mom," Raven says as she waves Arella over.

"Well, I suppose I should choose my mother," you say.

Your mother joins you and she sits with Roselind.

"Starfire," Raven says.

"Dad," you say.

"Grandmother Ruth," Raven says.

This leaves just the Titans North to choose from.
