The only instance of this I've seen in this topic is people refusing to use ze/zir.
Yeah, that's what I was referring to.

To me it says a lot when He/Him or She/Her or They/Them still doesn't cut it for you? According to google "ze/zir" is a gender neutral way of referring to someone where you don't know and don't want to assume....and They/Them? Doesn't cut it? Nonsense. I have no problem accepting anyone but I'm not gonna feed into lunacy that begs the question if they're just seeking attention, or just fighting all the wrong battles. Sorry if that offends anyone with a weak spirit but there is a line in the sand here where this is no longer about tolerance.

To me it says a lot that for the case of an extremely unlikely situation, people need to pre-emptively act like an asshole about it.

And then try to poorly justify such behavior.

My point exactly.

I think this is a pointless diversion where there are actual real issues to tackle about gender equality. The last thing needed is to muddy the water with pointless pronouns when we have ones that include ever single person on this planet. And we don't need pronouns for "Extremely rare circumstances' Again, that says to me this is isn't about tolerance.

It wasn't a rhetorical question. It was an "actually think for a second" question.

Have you met every single person on this planet to confirm that they all fall under he/him/she/her/they/them?

Even IF what you say is true, then:
  1. What's the point of getting pre-emptively angry and rude over someone that you don't believe exists.
  2. If you've never met anyone who asks to use these pronouns, you are literally concocting a person in your head to get mad at over this.

No, you're right. I don't speak for the whole planet.

But I speak for common sense when I say the world doesn't need to make exceptions for such extreme circumstances.

You know that's a basic human emotion I feel, and I'm sure you've felt to. Have you ever been in a situation like that, where you you putting that much attention on yourself, or asking people go go well out of their way just for you8 would be wrong?

No one's mad here. Well I can only speak for myself. You're also defending and speaking up for a person who doesn't exist.

yeah they can fuck off, I will never use ze/zir

The problem w/ this is that Ze/Zir are supposed to be used when one has not yet been informed of a person's gender yet. This is too avoid "offending" them by assuming their gender. But, if somebody did NOT assume my gender, and called me by Ze/Zir I would be offended. I'd be offended that they second guessed whether or not I was a He/Him.

This is commonplace for the vast vast majority of the world. In order to use Ze/Zir without it devolving into a discussion cesspool, the practice of asking "what is your gender" needs to first be a general and "safe" social practice. But it just isn't. Asking somebody you've just met "What is your Gender" is not social taboo...nor could it ever be, as the world is too large and vast to start replacing the commonplace greeting of "Hi, my name is ___, what is your name?"

If a stranger walked up to you and said "Hi, my name is Susan, and I am a They. What is your name & gender?" wouldn't that make you uncomfortable. How would you react? It is just an awkward way to start a conversation.

This is why more legitimate Trans or Non-Binary people, and not just young progressive twitter users trying to be fashionable, do NOT get offended by people who assume their gender. It is to be expected, and unavoidable - as they themselves will assume other peoples gender for the sake of avoiding the awkward situation I described above. They simply (if they feel the need) politely correct the person, inform them of their prefered pronouns, and then continue the discussion.

It's not a big deal to them. What is a big deal is when somebody refuses to acknowledge them by their preferred pronouns on purpose, or harass/discriminate them as a result of their prefered pronouns.

I live in San Francisco, just blocks away from the Castro District. This district has more trans and non-binary people than anywhere else in the world. I've been politely corrected a few times...it happens, and they don't throw hissy fits. They understand. Twitter is not representative of the real world, and this Cartoon Network stuff is just a poor attempt of virtue signalling. The actual Trans Community doesn't even advocate the use of Ze/Zir for the same reasons I listed above. There is no acceptable social interaction where using such pronoun would be commonplace.

"I feel seen"
I don't know why, but something about that seems so ... idk, lulz.

Anyways, I once got backlash for saying "where are they" in regards to a singular person, because we've all done it as a lazy general use at one point or another. Turns out the person was mtf and I was supposed to somehow know this solely through text and never seeing them. ... aight.

I try to respect others preferences, but sheesh. If they ever once, used something incorrect grammaticly or politically correct. zzzt, to the russian front.

Cartoon PSAs

I'm completely dumbfounded that some of you see nothing wrong with CARTOON PSAs about social issues.
Shouldn't PSAs for kids be like "DONT GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFO ON LINE" or "WATCH OUT FOR CARS"???

It is indeed propaganda to give children a slanted view of the world. People who's pronouns are SHE/HE or HIM/HER make up over 99% of the population and it's confusing to kids who haven't even been spoken to about their anatomy.

The message is good---the place and way it is conveyed is NOT.

G.I Joe and He-man actually did GOOD and HELPFUL PSAs at the end of their episodes during the 80's.

Example # 1: "Don't give strangers your address". Some pedo tricks some kid into giving him his address. Luckily, Roadblock from G.I Joe shows up and the pedo speeds away. Roadblock then strongly emphasizes that kids shouldn't give out their address or any other personal information to strangers. That advice still applies today:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFthiZ_Jftc

Example # 2: He-man & The Masters of the Universe: don't do hard drugs. Hard drugs don't make your problems go away in the long run, they create bigger problems in the long run. This is advice that still applies today:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYEDrNC9AWQ

Other cartoons did PSAs like this.... HELPFUL PSAs which could apply to anyone of any generation. And they did it very effectively with good storytelling.
