I mean they'll run the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X versions I guess but still no changes were made to take advantage of PS5 and XSX hardware yet, because those versions are coming next year

And here I was thinking that those versions actually came out at the same time. Well that explains it.

Well theyre in completely different resolutions and framerates, which doesnt come across in a compressed video, but even still you can see how blurry the PS4 is, look at how jagged the shadows are.

Yeah, a little bit. I don't know if I can distinguish these two comparison though.

They slightly optimised the game on next gen (XSX has more detail because Microsoft allows BC games to be modified more I guess) but yeah next gen versions are next year. Which makes the sorry state of the ports even more sad.

Yeah that's nut. I didn't even know they were sandbagin' the next gen versions. It's like why even bother.

Base PS4 is dynamic resolution between 720p and 900p at 15-25fps (typical). PS5 is up to 1188p (not sure what the lower bound is) with a 60fps target that usually is consistently in the 50s or at 60.

Wait what

So the actual XSX and PS5 versions coming next year will pretty much be on par with the current PC version (minus bugs), right? If that work is already done why do the next gen console versions need so much more time?

Also resolution of effects is tied to rendering resolution. So various effects will look crappier on base systems.

Probably but only with limited RT support in a 30fps mode. But you know... no guarantee lol.

lol I certainly wouldn't get my hopes up about that. Stuff like ray tracing apparently isn't even supported on AMD cards yet which is what the next gen consoles use.

The next gen versions need time because they're busy fixing the current versions until at least February. So it's gonna be until after then at least.

Gaming tech sites often mention that the next gen consoles have some form of RT hardware acceleration, which is why it's been implemented in some titles (Miles Morales, DMC5, Forza). I can't really find details on how it's implemented, but it's safe to say it's got nothing on the latest RTX cards. If there's a mid gen upgrade in 4 years or so, I'll be curious to see if they can stuff some RT cores in there. And maybe some hardware to help with super resolution whenever that exists.

Oh sorry I should have clarified. I was referring to CP2077 specifically there. Doesn't have official AMD ray tracing support at launch. Yeah the consoles can do ray tracing although it likely would be a lot more of a heavy cost than it is on PC RTX cards.

They were crunching so many versions of the game, each using a different target render resolution, scaling, and so forth. It's ridiculous that they launched it on last gen whatsoever.

You've got PS4 and X1. Then you have Pro and One X. Then Series S and X and Ps5. And lastly, PC.

Right? The game should never have been released in the current state it's in. It needed a few more years at least to cook. Could have been an incredible mid-generation milestone for next consoles and PC hardware.

The only saving grace of the current versions on PS5 and series X is that they run at 60 frames per second.
