Early quarantine was a blast. Tiger King and getting paid to sit at home and do nothing. Now it's becoming a drag.

I was traveling in January and February, got home a few days before the state of emergency. Most of the places I went didn't have any Corona restrictions or concern until the very end, but it was weird hearing global news about places after leaving them.

The pandemic's felt like the weirdest, worst, longest vacation comedown ever. But also, the whole year has been a blur.

I had asked for five years leading up to this to work from home, and was always told it couldnt be done, I needed to be in office.

They made an announcement on Sunday evening that my kids school was going to close down due to the virus, and by Monday afternoon IT had a laptop configured and ready for me to take home, to VPN and work remotely. Its been 9months since then, I havent worked in office once, and Ive actually been more productive since going home, even with having both of my kids at home with me to wrangle.

Such a fucking joke.

Before Corona had its patient zero confirmation here, I said it was going to just blow over like all the other "flavor of the year deals". After I saw what was happening in Italy, I immediately started realizing just how out of hand it could potentially get in a country like America when it made its way here. Yeah there's no reason most white collar jobs can't be done at home instead of going in to an office. The excuse that it can't be set up is bullshit.

I was literally in Disneyworld 3 days before they shut down. It was so weird. I was walking around Magic Kingdom when we found out the NBA cancelled the season. That was the real wtf moment for me.

I also like that we closed shit down when our state was seeing about 80infections per day. Were seeing piss-poor enforcement of some really minimal safety efforts now, and the infection rate is easily 20x that amount, and now a huge chunk of people in our state are advocating to open it up even more.

That's what fucking kills me. NC had an extremely half-ass shutdown when cases were relatively low. Now they've been ballooning up for months and we're only just now getting an even more half-assed restriction about businesses closing at 10pm.

This state is just business as fucking usual. You would never guess there was a pandemic aside from the scant few people wearing masks.

I was in Japan about two weeks after Diamond Princess incident and it was a bit stressful hearing news stories about cases around the country increasing. When I came back to the US I knew it was only a matter of when with the virus.

Its funny that you mentioned the NBA season being canceled as one of those I remember where I was when... moments.

I remember that was the serious moment in the COVID-19 timeline for me and I remember exactly where I was when I found out about NBA cancelling the season and thats when it hit me like a ton of bricks.

Yep. I remember exactly where I was standing too. I felt like everyone around me who were on their phones were all seeing the news at the same time and it was just like this weird feeling the rest of the night.

It was St. Patrick's Day for me. Already a shitty day because my stepdad died that morning. Then at work we watched the governor announce the shutdown. I didn't know what would be happening.
