I've been trying to pull him out of the rabbit hole for months but he's been brainwashed. He's my best friend since we were like 6 though so I'm not gonna quit yet.

Before the days of Trump and QAnon and whatever dumb shit our living hell of a country has become, I used to read insane conspiracy theory websites to laugh at it. Used to be stuff like aliens, or end of the world stuff, or overall 'new world order' or tracking chip dumb shit.

Now it's not so fun since so many of these people exist now and actively believe in this insane bullshit.

Literally everything that happens or doesn't happen is part of The Plan for these people. You can't fight them by pointing out past promises because they've already moved on to something equally crazy, and they have whole communities online to reinforce this thinking.

...I've resorted to just casually expressing interest and then segueing into a completely unrelated topic. He's still cool about literally anything that isn't related to conspiracy shit...for now.

I'm a better acquaintence and drinking buddy than I am a legit friend, so I prefer people who are also like that. I don't really like when other people expect my time and presence just for the sake of it, since I'm not so inclined to ask for much of either from anyone else. It's an age thing. My perspective and lifestyle is different from how it used to be. I do have a friend that used to get into conspiracy shit sometimes but after I got pissed off at him a bunch and he had to keep talking me out of leaving while we were hanging out, he stopped talking about that shit or putting on dumbfuck youtube videos. I gave him a bit of a lecture about fake news. He genuinely didnt realize it was so bad and had started going down a few rabbit holes. He did seem quite embarassed like he realized he had bought into bullshit. I didn't give him any full on ultimatum but he did learn a lot about what I'm not gonna put up with, so it all ended up fine.
