A MUM has revealed how she was shamed for using the name Father Christmas - as the term isnt gender neutral.
The woman said she was slammed in a Facebook group for not calling him Santa Claus instead.

The woman said she has been left feeling on edge after getting criticised after joining in a discussion about a childrens book.
PlymouthLive shared how the mum said: I've just been shamed [on a Facebook group] for using the name 'Father Christmas' and told that 'Santa' is now seen as gender neutral.
"I was only referring to the book below ['Father Christmas' by Raymond Briggs] but it's left me a little confused/on edge about what we are allowed to say.
"I have a small child and don't really want to raise him saying 'Father Christmas' if it's hurtful to some."

Many people were quick to leap to her defence, with one saying: I am all for equality but where does this stupidity stop?"
Another added: Santa is so American, Father Christmas here and will always be Father Christmas."
And one joked: It is Father Christmas, we are English not American! This gender neutral stuff is way out of hand."
However, one commented: I must be the only one who hates 'Father Christmas', I much prefer 'Santa/Santa Claus,' plus it's easier for littlies to say."

Last year, GraphicSprings asked 400 people from the US and the UK about the ways to modernise Santa.
Those questioned on how to update Father Christmas were asked whether he should be male, female or gender neutral.
In the UK nearly one in six those questioned thought Santa should be gender neutral.
Other suggestions included ditching his iconic suit for skinny jeans, trainers, a hover-board and tattoos.
However, on Twitter, one person noted: You cannot change history - St Nicholas, the guy who started the whole stocking hanging thing was a man!!"

Interchangeable for me. Mostly Santa or Farther Christmas. My nice and nephews do the same. This is a dumb article though as the book is literally called Farther Christmas and this is a example of some adults trying to ruin kids childhood by making them think about grown up things. They can call him whatever they please and I won't be changing what I call him too. PS we also have Mrs clause. Should she be general natural too?

Father Christmas is corporate, you can't market Santa because "some people aren't Christian and we need to be inclusive to our potential demographics... I mean customers"

It's totally in the spirit of corporations to appeal to everyone and no one. I don't think TV shows are devoid of all religion because the producers were atheists (even though I like the fact that TV shows are devoid of all religion), it's just part of their censorship policies.

They do this to appeal to a broad an audience as possible and avoid all possible controversies. So it's not about your feelings, it's about money.

They treat all religious symbolism as a trademarked property that they can't use, so they try to bootleg their own in there, and then they lie to you and tell you their shitty open-source bootleg version is all about being progressive

Which is honestly destructive to religious values in general, so I guess it's not all that bad.

Ok so in hindsight, I was thinking about Father Winter, which was a dumb name I saw in The Sims. That one is made up. Father Christmas is the English Santa.

In my defense I've been doing this all week ever since I took that double shift. My coworker's name changed to one I completely made up in my head, and he had to remind me what his name was. :( Energy drinks do not substitute sleep.
